\n Carol, from Irvine, was able to see her son James exchange vows with his partner Shoni at the hospital last month.\n<\/p>\n
\n The couple, who live in Ayr, moved their wedding forward by months after Carol received a sudden cancer diagnosis.\n<\/p>\n
\n She was an inpatient at the hospital’s gynaecology ward.\n<\/p>\n
\n Hospital staff decorated a room on the ward with flowers and balloons, while the hospital catering team provided food and drinks for the special day.\n<\/p>\n
\n James, 38, said: “It was always a dream of my mum’s to watch me get married, so when I found out how ill she was I knew right there and then I wanted to make her wish come true.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Having my mum there was really important for me.\n<\/p>\n
\n “She was not just my mum, she was my best friend and the one person I could count on.”\n<\/p>\n
\n “Getting married to James knowing Carol was going to be there meant more to me than any big fancy wedding,” added Shoni, 30.\n<\/p>\n
\n “When we look back at pictures and see Carol there, we just know we made the right decision.”\n<\/p>\n
\n The couple expressed their gratitude to hospital staff, who they said were able to arrange everything within 24 hours.\n<\/p>\n
\n Caroline Blake, head of nursing, women’s and children’s services, said: “It had been a difficult few months for Carol, becoming so unwell and facing such a challenging time.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Being able to watch her son get married was truly wonderful, and she was so happy.\n<\/p>\n
\n “The staff genuinely care about our patients and were determined to do everything they could to help make the wedding happen.\n<\/p>\n
