\n\tWarner Bros.\u2019 \u201cSuperman<\/a>\u201d debuted atop the U.K. and Ireland box office with \u00a36.9 million ($9.4 million), according to Comscore. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe James Gunn-directed reboot, starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, was below the $15 million opening enjoyed by predecessor \u201cMan of Steel.\u201d The ongoing heatwave conditions in the region appear to be keeping audiences outdoors, choosing sun over cinema, as evidenced by the drop in blockbuster collections, which experienced a decline of 35% week-on-week. The massive popularity of Wimbledon, which concluded Sunday evening, could also be a contributing factor. <\/p>\n

\n\tUniversal\u2019s \u201cJurassic World Rebirth<\/a>\u201d dropped to second place with $4.4 million in its second frame, pushing its cumulative total to $26 million. Warner Bros.\u2019 F1<\/a>\u201d remained in the top three, adding $1.5 million in its third outing for a running total of $21.4 million.<\/p>\n

\n\tRounding out the top five were Universal\u2019s \u201cHow To Train Your Dragon<\/a>,\u201d which banked $782,759 in its fifth week for a total of $25.9 million, and Sony\u2019s post-apocalyptic thriller \u201c28 Years Later,\u201d which earned $669,347 to bring its cume to $18.5 million.<\/p>\n

\n\tElsewhere in the top 10, Disney\u2019s \u201cElio\u201d collected $323,086 in its fourth week for a total of $4.6 million, while stablemate \u201cLilo & Stitch\u201d continued its summer run with $214,479, taking its total to $48.5 million. Punjabi-language hit \u201cSardaar Ji 3\u201d added $97,610 for a three-week total of $913,000.<\/p>\n

\n\tParamount\u2019s \u201cMission: Impossible \u2013 The Final Reckoning\u201d earned $64,949 in its eighth week, pushing its haul to $35 million, while Universal\u2019s \u201cThe Ballad Of Wallis Island\u201d rounded out the top 10 with $59,158, bringing its total to $2.5 million.<\/p>\n

\n\tLeading the charge among upcoming releases is Paramount\u2019s animated film \u201cSmurfs,\u201d directed by Chris Miller, featuring an all-star voice cast that includes Rihanna, James Corden, Octavia Spencer, John Goodman and Kurt Russell, which opens wide across the U.K. and Ireland. <\/p>\n

\n\tSony\u2019s \u201cI Know What You Did Last Summer\u201d marks the return of the 1997 horror franchise that helped define post-\u201cScream\u201d teen slashers. <\/p>\n

\n\tVertigo Releasing is launching \u201cFour Letters of Love,\u201d based on Niall Williams\u2019 best-selling novel and starring Pierce Brosnan, Helena Bonham Carter and Gabriel Byrne, into more than 300 cinemas. Mubi is opening Athina Rachel Tsangari\u2019s Venice title \u201cHarvest,\u201d while Stanley Kubrick\u2019s \u201cBarry Lyndon\u201d receives a 50th anniversary 4K reissue through Park Circus. <\/p>\n

\n\tBFI Distribution presents a newly restored 4K version of \u201cHuman Traffic,\u201d Justin Kerrigan\u2019s cult 1999 snapshot of British club culture.<\/p>\n
