{"id":234391,"date":"2025-10-30T17:35:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-30T17:35:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/234391\/"},"modified":"2025-10-30T17:35:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-30T17:35:08","slug":"elon-musk-what-was-the-mysterious-bright-light-spotted-in-irish-skies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/234391\/","title":{"rendered":"Elon Musk: What was the mysterious bright light spotted in Irish skies?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Leo Enright, a space commentator, said fuel ejecting from rockets is a normal occurrence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He said if the fuel is kept in the rocket there is a danger that it will explode and release debris, so ejecting fuel is standard practice for space companies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Mr Enright explained that lighting conditions are the reason why the spectacle had not been noticed before across the island of Ireland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;It&#8217;s all to do with lighting, and also honestly seeing anything from Ireland is a challenge,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;So I&#8217;m sure it&#8217;s happened in the sky and we just couldn&#8217;t see it because of cloud.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Mr Enright said: &#8220;The reason why Ireland is quite vulnerable [to space debris] is that we are, generally speaking, at the highest point on the map of the launch trajectory of the rockets out of Cape Canaveral [in Florida].&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">This week <a href=\"https:\/\/www.darksky.ie\/press-release-successful-international-conference-bid-for-westport-mayo-alan-2025\/\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">astronomers and other experts from across the globe met in Westport, external<\/a>, County Mayo, to examine the challenges of light pollution and explore solutions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">BBC News NI has contacted AirNav Ireland for comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Leo Enright, a space commentator, said fuel ejecting from rockets is a normal occurrence.
