BARBERS are being invited to a free training session designed to help them recognise, listen to, and support clients who may be struggling with their mental health.<\/p>\n
Between 2012 and 2021, 68% of all suicides recorded in Jersey involved men, figures which highlight the need for community based initiative.<\/p>\n
The training session will be delivered by award-winning barber, author, and educator Tom Chapman, who developed the BarberTalk training to supply barbers with the confidence and tools to have supportive conversations with clients, and enable professionals to break the stigma around men\u2019s mental health.<\/p>\n
\u201cBarbers are often confidants for their clients \u2013 they hear about people\u2019s lives, challenges, and worries,\u201d said Alfie, barber at KSG and co-founder of the Danny Cram Foundation, which was launched in honour of a 25-year-old Islander who his own life earlier this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis training helps barbers recognise when someone might be struggling and gives them the skills to start a supportive chat and to help them get the support they need. Together, we can make a real difference.\u201d<\/p>\n
Training will be funded by the Government of Jersey\u2019s Connect Me Grant Scheme, which aims to strengthen community wellbeing through everyday conversations.<\/p>\n
