{"id":236449,"date":"2025-10-31T19:08:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-31T19:08:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/236449\/"},"modified":"2025-10-31T19:08:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-31T19:08:07","slug":"roger-mayweather-faced-13-world-champions-and-had-no-doubt-who-was-the-best-of-them-all","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/236449\/","title":{"rendered":"Roger Mayweather Faced 13 World Champions And Had No Doubt Who Was The Best Of Them All"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/topic\/roger-mayweather\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roger Mayweather<\/a> has revealed the best fighter that he shared the ring with during his professional career.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/news\/roger-mayweather-on-greatest-of-all-time\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Before he coached his all-time-great nephew Floyd<\/a>, Roger Mayweather enjoyed considerable success throughout the course of his own fighting career, winning world titles in two weight classes along the way.<\/p>\n<p>The Michigan-native reigned supreme at super-featherweight and light-welterweight, racking up no less than 59 victories before announcing his retirement from the sport in 1999.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst he did suffer 13 losses during his tenure, Mayweather never shied away from a challenge and would go on to share the ring with a number of generational greats, including Mexican icon Julio Cesar Chavez, who he fought on two occasions.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Boxing Scene, Mayweather named countryman Pernell Whitaker as the best fighter that he ever faced, who he says was \u2018one of the best fighters ever\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe best pure fighter I ever fought was Pernell Whitaker. Whitaker was one of the best fighters in any era. I was looking at the Ring Magazine\u2019s top 80 fighters of all time and they got him at number 10. The first 2 are Ray Robinson and Henry Armstrong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnother guy was Roberto Duran. They got Willie Pep but that\u2019s bullsh*t. Willie Pep wasn\u2019t sh*t anyway. He was a white man and they always gotta put that motherf**ker on top.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/pernell-whitaker-the-escape-artist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Known for his defensive brilliance<\/a>, Whitaker entered the paid ranks just after he captured an Olympic Gold Medal at the 1984 Summer Games in Los Angeles, California.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Sweet Pea\u2019 would prove to be one of the greatest fighters of his generation during his time as a professional, winning world titles in four weight classes up until his retirement from the sport in 2001.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Roger Mayweather has revealed the best fighter that he shared the ring with during his professional career.
