\n\tTate McRae<\/a> kicked off the TIME100 Next<\/a> Gala by debuting an acoustic version of her latest single \u201cTit For Tat\u201d before a star-studded crowd.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe pop star was honored by Time on Thursday night in New York City alongside other breakout talents, including Jonathan Bailey<\/a>, Lainey Wilson, Jack Quaid, Damson Idris, Monica Barbaro, Tramell Tillman<\/a> and Teyana Taylor.<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing McRae\u2019s performance, several honorees took turns raising their glasses and toasting to the values that inspire them. Wilson urged attendees to \u201cstay planted\u201d and \u201cwater your roots\u201d in the pursuit of growth, while Bailey toasted to the simple joys that foster human connection.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cRight now, we are technically more connected, but in isolation \u2014 and I believe we should seize any opportunity to bring people together,\u201d Bailey said. \u201cSo, here\u2019s to house parties. Here\u2019s to watching films in cinemas\u2026 Here\u2019s to slut dropping in packs, and to meeting in parks.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTillman, who recently became the first Black actor to win<\/a> an Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series for his villainous turn as Seth Milchick in \u201cSeverance,\u201d reflected on his roots by sharing a powerful story about his grandparents\u2019 legacy of civil rights activism in Virginia.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIn 2025, the grandson of James and Pearl Hill won an Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series,\u201d Tillman said. \u201cI am my ancestors\u2019 wildest dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOn the red carpet, Tillman expressed coy enthusiasm when asked about his next big role. Variety reported in August<\/a> that the \u201cSeverance\u201d star joined the cast of Sony and Marvel\u2019s \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day\u201d \u2014 possibly as an antagonist to Tom Holland\u2019s titular web-slinger.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWho says I\u2019m playing a villain? Who says that? Where\u2019d you get that from?\u201d the Milchick actor told Variety with a mischievous smirk. \u201cI can\u2019t say too much about that. I am enjoying my time filming \u2018Spider-Man.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFor many of this year\u2019s breakout stars, fame is an adjustment. \u201cSinners\u201d breakout star Miles Caton said he\u2019s learning to navigate the sudden attention that comes with Hollywood recognition.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m from New York, so normally when somebody stares at you, it\u2019s like you don\u2019t really know if they have a problem or whatever,\u201d Caton said. \u201cIt\u2019s a little interesting to try and see what the vibe is, but most of the interactions have been positive and good vibes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSustainability was a running theme in many of the night\u2019s biggest speeches, with honorees Brandon Sorbom and Ayana Elizabeth Johnson highlighting innovations in clean energy and the urgent need for climate action. But in Hollywood circles, conversations about the future have largely shifted to generative AI and how it\u2019ll shape the creative process moving forward.<\/p>\n

\n\tMaggie Kang, co-director of the massively-successful \u201cK-Pop: Demon Hunters\u201d (the most-streamed Netflix movie to date), believes the path forward starts with open dialogue between artists and AI developers.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt is coming, and we have to kind of face that,\u201d Kang said. \u201cI do think that it could be a tool that can be useful for all forms of art production. There\u2019s just been a lack of communication between the two parties, and I\u2019ve talked to people on both sides, and they kind of feel the same.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBut just as Caton adjusts to fans approaching him on the street, or Wilson says \u201cyou can\u2019t rush the growing season,\u201d Kang admits she\u2019s still getting used to seeing AI-generated versions of her work.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s wild \u2014 especially the live-action stuff. I\u2019m like, \u2018Ooh, I don\u2019t know if I really wanted to see that,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cTechnology is really incredible, and in its own way, it\u2019s a way for fans to create content that they want to see right away, because animation takes a very long time.
