Ghana’s gold industry contributed GH\u00a288.1 billion to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2024, with gold exports reaching US$11.2 billion as of August 2025.<\/p>\n

This was disclosed by Ghana\u2019s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the inauguration of the Newmont Ahafo North Mine on October 30, 2025, Professor Opoku-Agyemang emphasised that Ghana’s mining sector remains a key driver of the economy, with the latest figures highlighting its central role in job creation, revenue generation, and investment attraction.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe opening of the Ahafo North Mine is an act of partnership and progress, and the fruit of mutual respect and collaboration. Last year, Ghana\u2019s gold industry contributed GH\u00a288.1 billion to our GDP. Also, this year, our gold exports reached a record US$11.2 billion. These figures demonstrate and inspire confidence in our economy, governance, and national potential,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

She described the over US$1 billion investment in the Ahafo North Mine as a testament to Ghana\u2019s ability to attract major global investors.<\/p>\n

Professor Opoku-Agyemang noted that the project would not only boost national revenue but also stimulate development in the Ahafo Region and beyond through local employment opportunities and community projects.<\/p>\n
