{"id":240166,"date":"2025-11-02T20:38:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-02T20:38:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/240166\/"},"modified":"2025-11-02T20:38:13","modified_gmt":"2025-11-02T20:38:13","slug":"france-superstar-antoine-dupont-becomes-rugbys-best-paid-player","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/240166\/","title":{"rendered":"France superstar Antoine Dupont becomes rugby&#8217;s best paid player"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/toulouse\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Toulouse<\/a> have confirmed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/france\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">France<\/a> superstar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/antoine-dupont\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Antoine Dupont<\/a> has signed a remarkable contract extension keeping him at Stade Toulousain until 2031.<\/p>\n<p>The deal is understood to have made Dupont the best-paid rugby player in the world and will see him through the next two Rugby World Cups.<\/p>\n<p>The 28-year-old superstar will be 34 by the time the deal runs out.<\/p>\n<p>Although limited by the salary cap, the France captain\u2019s new terms are rumoured to elevate him above the game\u2019s current top earners.<\/p>\n<p>While the club have not disclosed financial details, the long-term commitment is being viewed as a statement of intent both by Toulouse and by French rugby authorities, coming after recent speculation that Dupont could be tempted by the rebel R360 league.<\/p>\n<p>Dupont\u2019s decision to stay until 2031 effectively ties him to the club through his prime playing years, in arguably the biggest retention coup in the game.<\/p>\n<p>The news comes a little over a week after he publicly complained about the LNR\u2019s salary cap and the subject of player image rights, which normally reside with the clubs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAntoine Dupont extends his adventure with Stade Toulousain until 2031,\u201d read the club\u2019s statement. \u201cHis contract extension symbolizes loyalty, passion and shared ambition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since joining from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/castres\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Castres<\/a> in 2017, Dupont has become the defining player of his generation.<\/p>\n<p>Named World Rugby\u2019s Player of the Year in 2021, he is a multiple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/six-nations\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Six Nations<\/a> winner with France and is the heartbeat of Toulouse\u2019s domestic and European dominance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWearing the Stade Toulousain jersey is a childhood dream come true, a real dream come true! I miss you all so much. Next time we see each other, I hope I\u2019ll have my cleats on,\u201d said Dupont over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>In his eight seasons with the club Dupont has lifted five <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/top-14\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Top 14<\/a> titles (2019, 2021, 2023, 2024 and 2025) and two Champions Cups (2021 and 2024), including two Top 14\u2013Champions Cup doubles.<\/p>\n<p>He has made 133 appearances for Toulouse and has scored 62 tries. Remarkably, he\u2019s been on the winning side 103 times.
