Rubin Observatory in Chile.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">A massive <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\/interstellar-3i-atlas-comet-about-disappear-from-earths-view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">comet known as 3I\/ATLAS<\/a> that was first discovered zooming across the solar system <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_3\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\/3i-atlas-space-telescope-interstellar-comet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">over the summer<\/a> showed signs of &#8220;non-gravitational acceleration&#8221; and appeared to have turned blue as it passed the <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_4\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/sun\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Sun<\/a>, according to scientists.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_5\" href=\"https:\/\/avi-loeb.medium.com\/first-evidence-for-a-non-gravitational-acceleration-of-3i-atlas-at-perihelion-2698f6a453fe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">According to a report from Avi Loeb<\/a>, Baird Professor of Science and Institute Director at Harvard University, the non-gravitational acceleration was first indicated by <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_6\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/nasa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">NASA<\/a> in a <a href=\"https:\/\/ssd.jpl.nasa.gov\/tools\/sbdb_lookup.html#\/?sstr=3I%2FATLAS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">recent report<\/a>, and indicated that expected outgassing from the comet would mean it would lose half its mass and show a massive debris plume in the coming months.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/how-to-watch-fox-weather-on-tv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">HOW TO WATCH FOX WEATHER<\/a><\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"668\" height=\"376\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/space-image.jpg\" alt=\"New image of the comet 3I\/ATLAS from the Hubble Telescope\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">New image of the comet 3I\/ATLAS from the Hubble Telescope<\/p>\n<p class=\"sub-text\"> (NASA)<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The problem is &#8211; Earth-based telescopes can&#8217;t get a good look at <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_9\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\/mars-spacecraft-closest-view-interstellar-comet-3i-atlas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">3I\/ATLAS<\/a> to see if that&#8217;s occurring because it&#8217;s being hidden behind the Sun. However, it&#8217;s expected to reappear in early December and that will allow for ground-based observations.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">In the meantime, NASA and other partners, like the European Space Agency (ESA), have been using spacecraft to track 3I\/ATLAS.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_10\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/app\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">DOWNLOAD THE FREE FOX WEATHER APP<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">But, what if, once 3I\/ATLAS comes into better view, it doesn&#8217;t appear to have lost any sort of mass?<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;Alternatively, the non-gravitational acceleration might be the technological signature of an internal engine,&#8221; Loeb <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_11\" href=\"https:\/\/avi-loeb.medium.com\/first-evidence-for-a-non-gravitational-acceleration-of-3i-atlas-at-perihelion-2698f6a453fe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">wrote in his report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"668\" height=\"376\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/exomars_trace_gas_orbiter_observes_comet_3i_atlas_gif_article.gif\" alt=\"ExoMars TGO images comet 3I\/ATLAS taken in October 2025.\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">ExoMars TGO images comet 3I\/ATLAS taken in October 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"sub-text\"> (ESA \/ FOX Weather)<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">In response to a question about 3I\/ATLAS from Kim Kardashian, NASA Acting Administrator Sean Duffy said there isn&#8217;t anything to worry about.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;@NASA&#8217;s observations show that this is the third interstellar comet to pass through our solar system,&#8221; he <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_12\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SecDuffyNASA\/status\/1984011464961880441\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said in a post on X<\/a>. &#8220;No aliens. No threat to life here on Earth.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">In his report, Loeb said that massive evaporation of 3I\/ATLAS could explain its intense blue light, citing a <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_13\" href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/pdf\/2510.25035v1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">recent paper<\/a>. &#8220;For a natural comet, this blue color is very surprising,&#8221; he wrote, saying that dust would result in having a redder color than the Sun.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_14\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\/november-skywatching-astromomical-events-full-moon-meteor-shower\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">DON&#8217;T MISS THESE SKYWATCHING EVENTS IN NOVEMBER<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;(The blue color) could potentially be explained by a hot engine or a source of artifical light,&#8221; Loeb continued. &#8220;However, it might instead be a signature of ionized carbon monoxide for a natural comet.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Comet 3I\/ATLAS was expected to make its closest approach to the Sun on Oct. 30, reaching about 130 million miles (210 million km) from our star.
