When discussing\u00a0Pink Floyd<\/a>, the band are usually lauded as one of the most important rock music has ever seen, and rightly so. From being at the forefront of the burgeoning psychedelic movement in the late 1960s to the sonic refinement of concept albums such as\u00a0The Dark Side of the Moon, the group did more than enough to cement their standing among the greats.<\/p>\n In fact, when looking back, it is difficult not to see the group as granite pillars upon which so much other music has been formed. They helped to pioneer the sense of ambience that now litters the modern music scene; they also refused to partake too deeply in the notion of three-minute hits for the radio. Pink Floyd can also take credit for their undying dedication to perfecting the live show spectacle, all of which is now a mainstay in the modern world. <\/p>\n Yet, Pink Floyd\u2019s story is not a straightforward one. While their highlights are some of the most vital for the development of rock music, the band are also no strangers to a misfire. After original frontman and creative figurehead Syd Barrett left the group in 1968, the quartet embarked on a protracted period of experimentation.\u00a0<\/p>\n Whilst this period would provide some moments of artistic brilliance, as it was a chapter of creative metamorphosis, wherein the band figured out their way forward, naturally, it also produced material that didn\u2019t hit listeners in the way they desired. According to David Gilmour, a man who has always been realistic about the history of Pink Floyd, it was the song \u2018A Saucerful of Secrets\u2019 \u2013 the title track of the group\u2019s contentious second album \u2013 that first gave them their \u201cdirection forward\u201d<\/a>. Even then, it took them years before they produced work of timeless quality consistently. <\/p>\n David Gilmour has always been the most realistic Pink Floyd member about the group\u2019s trajectory and has provided several compelling takes in his time. This includes describing 1970\u2019s\u00a0Atom Heart Mother\u00a0as the group\u2019s \u201clowest point artistically\u201d and\u00a0nothing more than \u201cshit\u201d<\/a>. This is a perfect representation of the unabashed honesty with which he greets his and the band\u2019s work, an attitude which has continued to be fascinating for fans.<\/p>\n
