{"id":241963,"date":"2025-11-03T20:08:21","date_gmt":"2025-11-03T20:08:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/241963\/"},"modified":"2025-11-03T20:08:21","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T20:08:21","slug":"carter-gregson-gray-reveals-plans-for-new-canada-water-footbridge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/241963\/","title":{"rendered":"Carter Gregson Gray reveals plans for new Canada Water footbridge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cartergregsongray.com\/people\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> London-based practice<\/a> is working with Art Invest Real Estate (AIRE), the developer behind the Dockside Canada Water scheme, as well as bridge engineer and fabricator Cake Industries to create a new crossing over the 5.8m-wide Albion Channel leading into Canada Water.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme will replace an existing 2.5m-wide, timber-clad, steel framed faux drawbridge with one featuring a \u2018generous, accessible deck\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The application follows a recently approved masterplan for the dockside land surrounding Canada Water\u2019s lake, which will see new public realm created alongside two new office blocks and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/tp-bennett-wins-approval-for-student-tower-at-canada-water\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">student residential tower<\/a> to be built afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>The terms of the Dockside application\u2019s consent states that the increased pedestrian footfall from the major development will require an \u2018enhanced footbridge\u2019 as part of the developer\u2019s S106 obligations.<\/p>\n<p>Canada Water is the focus of several high-profile projects in addition to the AIRE Dockside plans, including a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/a-thousand-object-to-allies-and-morrisons-outrageous-canada-water-changes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> \u00a34 billion Allies and Morrison masterplan<\/a>, which underwent major and controversial changes earlier this year. The bridge and new public realm will sit within the area of this wider scheme, with developers collaborating on the plans.
