The <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC7270385\/\">majority of its 27 grams of carbohydrates are prebiotic<\/a>, whereas some supplements only have 2.5 grams.<\/p>\n<p>Getting just three to five grams of prebiotics each day has been shown to be beneficial to your gut health, according to Texas\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/lubbockgastro.com\/prebiotics-are-you-eating-enough\/#:~:text=Recommended%20Daily%20Amount%20of%20Prebiotics,allowing%20your%20gut%20to%20adapt.\">Lubbock Gastroenterology<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Bananas have insulin, a natural hormone that turns foods into energy and regulates blood sugar.<\/p>\n<p>Insulin is also a prebiotic fiber and bananas are high in resistant starch, which has prebiotic effects, according to dietitians at <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/nutrition\/19-best-prebiotic-foods#chicory-root\">Healthline<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Reachers say this is the case<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC7270385\/\"> \u2018regardless of the type of banana,\u201d<\/a> of which there are <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2024\/mar\/22\/1000-varieties-banana-lack-of-diversity-extinction\">more than 1,000<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Asparagus<\/p>\n<p>Asparagus contains insulin and other forms of fiber that support a healthy gut.<\/p>\n<p>A quarter pound has at least five grams, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/chhs.source.colostate.edu\/the-10-best-food-sources-of-prebiotics\/\">Colorado State University<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has lots of fiber and beneficial nutrients,\u201d registered dietitian Carly Sedlacek told <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/health.clevelandclinic.org\/benefits-of-asparagus\">the Cleveland Clinic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Apples<\/p>\n<p>The majority of the more than 4 grams of fiber in apples is prebiotic. <\/p>\n<p>The fruit <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.goodrx.com\/well-being\/gut-health\/best-prebiotic-foods\">contains a prebiotic fiber known as pectin<\/a> that helps to improve inflammation and lower cholesterol levels. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt also contains plenty of polyphenols, which have a prebiotic effect on the gut microbiome,\u201d registered dietitian Dr. Emily Leeming told <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/article\/apple-gut-health-benefits#:~:text=%E2%80%9CApples%20contain%20fibre%2C%20and%20particularly,effect%20on%20the%20gut%20microbiome.%E2%80%9D\">Vogue<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/GettyImages-454677048.jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"A farmer eats an apple in Madrid, Spain, in September 2014. But, it has several hundred milligrams of prebiotic fiber per gram of food, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nutrition.org\/scientists-name-top-five-foods-rich-in-prebiotics\/\">scientists<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cApproximately 17 percent of the fiber found in garlic are prebiotics.
