{"id":242704,"date":"2025-11-04T05:09:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-04T05:09:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/242704\/"},"modified":"2025-11-04T05:09:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T05:09:10","slug":"concerns-that-40m-cycle-route-is-a-flooding-risk-due-to-lack-of-decent-drainage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/242704\/","title":{"rendered":"Concerns that \u00a340m cycle route is a flooding risk due to lack of \u201cdecent drainage\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are concerns that a stretch of\u00a0new cycle route that goes through Gloucester city centre is at risk of flooding due to a lack of drainage.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This route is part of the \u00a340m Gloucester Cycle Spine, which plans to link Bishop\u2019s Cleeve to Stroud via Cheltenham and Gloucester.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0It aims to \u201cdeliver high-quality cycle and pedestrian facilities that comply with the latest cycle design guidance\u201d, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gloucestershire.gov.uk\/major-projects-list\/gloucestershire-cycle-spine\/#:~:text=The%20Gloucestershire%20Cycle%20spine%20is,Bishop&#039;s%20Cleeve%20in%20the%20north.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Gloucestershire County Council<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" typeof=\"foaf:Image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/03-kimbrose-junction-parliament-street.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"lazyload\" itemprop=\"image\" width=\"970\" height=\"728\" alt=\"Gloucester cycle route plans\" title=\"Gloucester cycle route plans\"\/>Gloucester cycle route plans (credit: Gloucestershire County Council)<\/p>\n<p>There are concerns over the lack of drainage, leading to pools of water where the new cycle path meets the road at the new crossing on Kimbrose Way.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was concerned to see a significant pool of water at the new pedestrian crossing at Kimbrose Way on Wednesday and that was after light drizzle\u201d, Councillor Rebecca Trimnell told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk\/news\/gloucester-news\/flood-risk-fears-over-40m-10613925\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Gloucestershire Live.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/road.cc\/content\/news\/flooded-new-cycle-lane-dismissed-awful-job-298051\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">&gt;\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re splashing along\u201d: Flooded new cycle lane dismissed as \u201cawful job\u201d by councillor<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt seems that drainage is an issue which needs to be addressed in this location and perhaps in other areas where work has been done on this cycleway.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am astonished that decent drainage was not thought about prior to this work. I had presumed the pedestrian crossing was to reopen at the end of October, and it seems this could be further delayed if work is now needed on a drainage solution.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPedestrians have had to put up with a lot at this crossing and it\u2019s about time work was completed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" typeof=\"foaf:Image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/puddle-kimbrose-way-gloucester-copy.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"lazyload\" itemprop=\"image\" width=\"970\" height=\"646\" alt=\"Puddle on Kimbrose Way, Gloucester  copy\" title=\"Puddle on Kimbrose Way, Gloucester  copy\"\/>Puddle on Kimbrose Way, Gloucester  copy (credit: Rebecca Trimnell)<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time that Cllr Rebecca Trimnell has had issues with the Gloucester Cycle Spine. In June earlier this year, she complained about the <a href=\"https:\/\/road.cc\/content\/news\/politician-furious-disgraceful-cycle-lane-314605\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">cycle lane replacing \u201chistoric\u201d paving stones with tarmac \u201cmess\u201d.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Speaking about the tarmac, she said: \u201cAcross from the church on the corner of St Aldate Street the old paving stones have been removed and now it\u2019s just tarmac.
