Lucas Hay<\/a> (Oscar Curtis<\/a>) attempts to save his relationship with an impromptu proposal in Hollyoaks <\/a>next week, unaware that beau Dillon Ray<\/a> (Nathaniel Dass<\/a>) has developed feelings for his dad Ste (Kieron Richardson<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Dillon, as viewers know, told his boyfriend\u2019s father<\/a> earlier this year that he\u2019s falling in love with him. Ste, like the rest of us, was taken aback by the bombshell revelation<\/a> and urged Dillon to bury such feelings, claiming that he was simply confused.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a turbulent year for Dillon, who was groomed by Ste\u2019s ex partner Rex Gallagher<\/a> (Jonny Labey<\/a>) into a world of exploitation<\/a>. He subsequently shot and killed operation leader DI Banks<\/a> amid his efforts to escape and struggled with addiction in the aftermath of the ordeal.<\/p>\n

As a recovering addict himself, Ste proved incredibly supportive towards him and ultimately became his son\u2019s boyfriend\u2019s sponsor.<\/p>\n

Dillon was appreciative of the help and soon fell for Ste, who at first claimed he did not reciprocate such feelings. However, amid a trip to Liverpool<\/a>, the chef ultimately admitted that he does \u2018feel something\u2019 for Dillon, with the two sharing a kiss<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The storyline left audiences reeling when it was first teased on-screen and they weren\u2019t alone, with stars Oscar Curtis and Nathaniel Dass telling Metro that they reacted the same.<\/p>\n

\u2018We were shocked as well,\u2019 Oscar said to me in an exclusive chat. <\/p>\n

Dillon star Nate added: \u2018It was pretty shocking. And when we did find out there were no hints towards it. [Mine and Oscar\u2019s] storyline was just focused on Dillon and Lucas and their relationship \u2013 how they fell in love, their ups and downs \u2013 so to get this thrown into the works, I was a bit gobsmacked to be honest when our boss Hannah [Cheers] told me.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018But I\u2019ve said before, and I\u2019ve heard people say before, that it\u2019s the storylines that you are speechless at and feel nervous about \u2013 and are like: \u2018Oh my gosh, I\u2019m not sure!\u2019 \u2013 that tend to have an effect on people and end up being really interesting.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s only starting for the audience, so we\u2019ll see what they have to say,\u2019 he laughed, \u2018But I remember us both being pretty shocked.\u2019<\/p>\n

Since falling for Ste, Dillon has attempted to break up with Lucas on two occasions, adamant that their relationship is at an end. However, for various reasons, he has refrained from following through.<\/p>\n

Lucas, meanwhile, remains in the dark about Ste but he knows full well that something is not quite right in the relationship, which Oscar reckons is down to the pair\u2019s lack of communication.<\/p>\n

\u2018I think they\u2019re both saying different things to different people,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

Next week, Dillon thinks long and hard about what he wants and he ultimately comes to the conclusion that he no longer loves Lucas, confiding such a thing in Frankie Osborne<\/a> (Isabelle Smith<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Oscar and Nate delivered some of their best work to date during the historic return of Hollyoaks Later last month as part of the Channel 4 soap\u2019s 30th anniversary. <\/p>\n

The stars couldn\u2019t speak highly enough of the experience that was taking part in the after-dark spin-off. \u2018Filming was\u00a0mad!,\u2019 exclaimed Oscar, adding that he and Nate had \u2018an absolute ball\u2019. <\/p>\n

\u2018The locations were just out of this world \u2013 we were 38 floors up in the highest apartment there is in Liverpool, that was just surreal. It was crazy \u2013 a huge, huge production. It felt so different [to regular Hollyoaks].\u2019<\/p>\n

Nate echoed such a sentiment, branding the nightclub scenes in particular \u2018amazing\u2019. <\/p>\n

\u2018That was filmed in a club in Liverpool where me and Oscar had actually been to and had some nights out there with our friends, so going back there in the day and acting like it was at night was amazing,\u2019 he enthused. \u2018When we walked in it was empty and then they put all the supporting artists in. We saw a rehearsal take with all the lights and everyone jumping and we, all the \u2018teens\u2019, looked at each other and thought: \u2018Okay, this is really, really cool!\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n

Discussing the development, Nate said: \u2018I think Dillon is very emotionally driven. He wears his heart on his sleeve and finds it hard to be fake to people. If he\u2019s feeling something in the moment then that\u2019s what he\u2019s going to go with. Whether it\u2019s right or wrong or whether it is actually how he feels \u2013 if it\u2019s how he feels there and then, that\u2019s what he\u2019s going to act on.\u2019<\/p>\n

The actor, however, was quick to add that, despite what Dillon might say next week, he doesn\u2019t think his on-screen counterpart has completely fallen out of love with Lucas. <\/p>\n

\u2018I wouldn\u2019t say it\u2019s necessarily that there are no feelings for Lucas \u2013 that it\u2019s completely over and completely cut off \u2013 because that would be ridiculous after everything they\u2019ve been through.<\/p>\n

\u2018But as for now, he feels more for Ste due to the fact he was his sponsor \u2013 someone he could relate to and someone he could have real chats with about his problems. I think he felt that Lucas never understood him in terms of what he went through with the trafficking and the drugs.\u2019<\/p>\n

And as Dillon confides in Frankie about his feelings for Ste, unsuspecting Lucas is spurred on by a comment from Leela Dexter (Kirsty-Leigh Porter) \u2013 who can\u2019t imagine a future where the boys aren\u2019t together \u2013 to arrange a surprise for Dillon at The Hutch.<\/p>\n

The surprise? An impromptu proposal, of course! In dramatic scenes in front of Ste and Leela, Lucas gets down on one knee and pops the question to Dillon!<\/p>\n

\u2018It feels like a last-ditch resort for Lucas,\u2019 said Oscar of the development, adding that Lucas is taking \u2018control\u2019 of the situation. \u2018He\u2019s grabbing at all straws and clutches to keep them together.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018He\u2019s really desperate and if he can show his love to Dillon by getting engaged, that\u2019s his security. He\u2019s thinking: \u2018It\u2019s fine, he\u2019s not going to leave me now\u2019.<\/p>\n

Oscar said that Lucas credits Dillon with helping him find the strength to come out and, given that they\u2019ve been through so much together, the young chef simply can\u2019t imagine a life without his one true love in it.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s all about Lucas keeping what he thinks is his comfort and safety \u2013 his safety net being Dillon. When that\u2019s not there, he\u2019s a bit lost so I think [in proposing] he\u2019s trying to keep his environment and ecosystem afloat.\u2019<\/p>\n

Nate said that Dillon is \u2018most definitely\u2019 shocked by the popping of the question but he quite-rightly wasn\u2019t giving any hints of what his alter-ego\u2019s answer will be.<\/p>\n

But if there\u2019s one thing we\u2019ve learned from Hollyoaks over the years, it\u2019s that secrets never stay secret for long so it\u2019s safe to assume that when the truth of Ste and Dillon\u2019s betrayal does come out, all hell will break loose.<\/p>\n

\t\t\t\tOscar and Nate on recent cast changes…\t\t\t<\/p>\n

Oscar couldn\u2019t help but smile when we talked about the recent return of James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan), whose unexpected comeback took Hollyoaks fans by storm<\/a> last month. <\/p>\n

The powerhouse actor has worked closely with star Greg <\/a>in the past, and he made it clear that he\u2019d very much like to do so again. \u2018I\u2019d be excited to film with Greg again, we always had a lot of banter on set. And it would be interesting to see the dynamic between Rex, Ste and James. These are characters that all have links to each other somehow.\u2019<\/p>\n

Nate added: \u2018And Dillon and Lucas as well. <\/p>\n

\u2018That\u2019s five characters that are all linked through Ste, they\u2019re all connected to him in some way. I think it would be brilliant to see a scene together with all five of us in one room and how that would all play out.\u2019<\/p>\n

Nate, meanwhile, was full of praise for Tisha Merry, who has joined the show as Donny\u2019s (Louis Emerick) \u2013 or should we say Brookside\u2019s Mick Johnston\u2019s \u2013 secret daughter Gemma and the impact her arrival has had on the Maalik\/Clark family. <\/p>\n

\u2018Tisha [Merry], who plays Gemma, is amazing. She\u2019s wonderful to have around on set \u2013 to add another member to the family \u2013 and I think there\u2019s going to be some really exciting scenes.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018We haven\u2019t even got onto that stage yet in what we\u2019re filming and reading through, but I think it\u2019s going to be absolute madness,\u2019 speculated Oscar.<\/p>\n

\u2018Lucas is a very volatile character as is and, you know, Dillon has already had a kid with his sister! And now he\u2019s coming for the dad. I think it\u2019s going to be all out carnage, to be honest.\u2019<\/p>\n

The star reckons that Lucas will hate Dillon for what he\u2019s done, though he was adamant that there is still \u2018so much love\u2019 between the two, which makes the situation all the more complicated. And that\u2019s before you factor in Lucas\u2019 abuse of Ste. <\/p>\n

The question that fans are no doubt pondering right now is if there is feasibly any way back for Dillon and Lucas after all this. Both stars aren\u2019t sure yet. \u2018I think there\u2019s HayRay, I just don\u2019t know which Hay!,\u2019 responded Oscar, with Nate recalling how co-star Kieron [Richardson, who plays Ste] \u2013 upon learning of the storyline \u2013 joked that Ste now \u2018puts the \u201cHay\u201d in Hayray\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018I think it would be hard for any characters to come back from something like this,\u2019 Oscar added after a moment of contemplation. \u2018But whatever happens it will be fun and I think we\u2019ll have fun filming it. It\u2019ll be challenging to play all those emotions at once but it will give us something to really chew on.\u2019<\/p>\n

Nate, meanwhile, said he would be \u2018sad\u2019 if Dillon and Lucas went their separate ways for good. <\/p>\n

He\u2019s surely not alone on that front! Both characters have so much shared history and they were there for each other at pivotal moments in their life so we\u2019ll just have to wait and see if a way back is possible.<\/p>\n

\u2018Characters grow apart and characters grow back together,\u2019 offered Nate, \u2018You never know what\u2019s going to happen\u2019.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, Christmas is just around the corner and, given that the season of good will never fails to deliver in Hollyoaks-land, this year\u2019s festive episodes are definitely worth getting excited about.<\/p>\n

\u2018Christmas is a time for family and togetherness,\u2019 teased Nate. \u2018If you\u2019ve got a lot of family with a lot of secrets and demons, when you bring them together and put them in a bit of a melting pot, it could overflow\u2026 and could explode.\u2019<\/p>\n

Consider our appetites whetted.<\/p>\n
