The iOS version of OpenAI&#8217;s text-to-video generative AI app is still only available in select markets and requires an invitation, but people are still extremely excited about making slop of their own; the app reportedly reached more than <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/ai\/openais-tiktok-of-ai-slop-hit-one-million-downloads-faster-than-chatgpt-181216271.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" data-ylk=\"slk:1 million downloads;cpos:1;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">1 million downloads<\/a> in less than five days. And it didn&#8217;t take long for the company to land in hot water over users creating <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/ai\/openai-suspends-sora-depictions-of-martin-luther-king-jr-following-a-request-from-his-family-110100581.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" data-ylk=\"slk:disrespectful clips;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">disrespectful clips<\/a> of Martin Luther King Jr. and drawing censure from <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/ai\/japan-asks-openai-not-to-infringe-on-irreplaceable-manga-and-anime-content-120008580.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" data-ylk=\"slk:the Japanese government;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Japanese government<\/a> over copycats of famous manga and anime.<\/p>\n<p class=\"col-body mb-4 leading-7 text-[18px] md:leading-8 break-words min-w-0 charcoal-color\">Those aren&#8217;t the only legal issues Sora has been skirting. OpenAI was <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/apps\/openai-sued-for-trademark-infringement-over-soras-cameo-feature-113047158.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" data-ylk=\"slk:sued by Cameo;cpos:4;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sued by Cameo<\/a> on claims of copyright infringement, and the very next day, the company released a feature <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/ai\/openais-character-cameos-will-let-you-put-pets-and-original-personas-in-sora-videos-123043189.html\" data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" data-ylk=\"slk:called &quot;cameo&quot;;cpos:5;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">called &#8220;cameo&#8221;<\/a> for putting existing entities into Sora&#8217;s gen-AI videos.
