A cheap night out is a rare thing these days.\u00a0Between the transport to\u00a0the club, the club entry, the \u00a38 pints or \u00a312 double vodka cokes, the 3am kebab and the cab back home, one night on the lash can do some real damage to the bank account. In the midst of a cost of living crisis, that means people simply aren\u2019t going out as much. And that means clubs\u00a0across the UK have bee shutting down left, right and centre.\u00a0<\/p>\n
But now, one club in Manchester<\/a> has come up with a solution for Britain\u2019s waning nightlife \u2013 allowing clubbers to bring their own booze.\u00a0XLR in Withington launched as the UK\u2019s very first licensed BYOB nightclub back in September.\u00a0<\/p>\n Guests\u00a0can bring in up to eight cans or one 70cl bottle of spirit per person completely free of charge. And you don\u2019t have to worry about carrying all that liquid around the dancefloor with you \u2013 there are 100 lockers\u00a0available for storing the any booze you bring in for \u00a32 per shelf.\u00a0<\/p>\n In order to cover the cost of becoming BYOB, the\u00a0club increased its average entry fee from \u00a36 to \u00a315. But, it says, ticket prices will never exceed \u00a320. The only rules are no glass, no backpacks and no re-entering the venue once you\u2019ve left. And there is still a working bar at XLR, in case you\u2019re craving a beer fresh from the keg.\u00a0<\/p>\n In a video<\/a> announcing the new concept, XLR\u2019s\u00a0owner Chris Hindle said: \u2018We\u2019re bringing a really new and exciting concept to the venue this year, where customers can bring their own alcohol into the venue.<\/p>\n \u2018Clubbing has come so very far away from what it used to be sort of back in the early 2000s, and the early 90s as well. Clubs were meant to be about the music, whereas now it\u2019s become very corporate, very money grab.<\/p>\n \u2018We don\u2019t want people feeling like they\u2019re being priced out of venues anymore, it\u2019s very important that anyone can come to a club. We all know the crisis that\u2019s going on with clubs and hospitality this year.\u2019<\/p>\n Micheal Kill,\u00a0chief executive of the Night Time Industries Association, told the\u00a0Times:\u00a0\u2018It\u2019s the first of its kind that we\u2019ve seen and an interesting innovation. Our industry is searching out new models considering the challenge around the limitations of disposable income.
