Andy Robertson<\/a> has lauded the Anfield atmosphere after Liverpool\u2019s 1-0 victory over Real Madrid<\/a>, with Florian Wirtz<\/a> taking in a special European night.<\/p>\n

The Reds found top gear on Tuesday evening, outplaying Madrid in front of a fervent home crowd, as Trent Alexander-Arnold<\/a>\u2018s return ended in defeat.<\/p>\n

Robertson was magnificent for Liverpool, justifying his selection over Milos Kerkez<\/a>, while Wirtz shone in a left-sided role in place of Cody Gakpo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking after the game, the Scot hailed the atmosphere, revealing that Wirtz was one of many to drink it in after Alexis Mac Allister<\/a>\u2018s goal.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cI think just after we scored, I think Florian was maybe down on the ground, and the lads were looking around saying \u2018This is where you want to play, these are the games you want to be a part of\u2019,\u201d Robertson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd that\u2019s what these fans can do and that\u2019s what this club does \u2013 it was a real special atmosphere tonight and we\u2019re going to need that all throughout the season.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut we know European nights, it doesn\u2019t take much to get it going, and thankfully, we gave them what they wanted at the start, high press and winning tackles.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know this crowd already reacts off the back of that, and I thought they really helped us over the line, so credit goes to them.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll round, it was a really pleasing night.\u201d<\/p>\n

This all felt like the Liverpool of old, from the players to the crowd, with Madrid unable to cope with the Reds\u2019 quality and intensity.<\/p>\n

Had it not been for Thibaut Courtois, who made eight saves on the night, the Premier League<\/a> champions would have been out of sight by the hour mark.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

For Wirtz, it was one of his most promising performances for Liverpool, with the German creating more chances (five) than anyone on the pitch, as well as making six recoveries off the ball.<\/p>\n

Nights like this should make him feel vindicated about choosing to join the Reds over the likes of Madrid and Bayern Munich<\/a>.<\/p>\n
