Tim Moore, Economics Director at S&P Global Market
\nIntelligence, said:\n<\/p>\n

“The latest survey offered some positive signals for the
\nUK service economy, with output growth stronger than
\nthe earlier ‘flash’ estimate for October, and therefore
\nconfirming a notable improvement from September’s five-
\nmonth low. Similarly, the rate of new business expansion
\ngained momentum, with the latest upturn among the
\nstrongest seen over the past year.\n<\/p>\n

“Service providers typically commented on a turnaround
\nin new client wins and better-than-expected sales
\nperformances in October. A number of firms noted
\nresilient customer demand, especially in domestic
\nmarkets, despite elevated business uncertainty and
\ndelayed decision-making on major spending ahead of the
\nBudget.\n<\/p>\n

“Labour market conditions finally showed some signs
\nof stabilisation, with the pace of job cuts in the service
\neconomy slowing considerably since September. This was
\nhelped by improved confidence towards the business
\noutlook. Output growth expectations rebounded to a
\n12-month high in October. Lower borrowing costs and
\nplanned investments in new technologies were cited as
\nfactors supporting positive sentiment.\n<\/p>\n

“Higher wages were again widely reported as pushing up
\ninput prices. However, the overall pace of cost inflation
\nwas the lowest since November 2024. Adding to signs of
\neasing inflationary pressure, latest data indicated that
\nservice providers increased their prices charged to the
