There\u2019s been a ton of chatter about the rising cost of PS5 games and whether GTA 6<\/a> could be the first $100 game.<\/p>\n

But Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024<\/a> may get there first.<\/p>\n

The aviation experience is landing on Sony\u2019s console on 3rd December, and it has four options available at launch: Standard ($69.99\/\u00a369.99), Deluxe ($99.99\/\u00a399.99), Premium Deluxe ($129.99\/\u00a3129.99), Aviator ($199.99\/\u00a3199.99).<\/p>\n

Yes, you read that correctly: $199.99!<\/p>\n

The difference between all the versions is primarily the number of aircraft you get access to, with the Standard including 70 aircraft up to 125 aircraft in Aviator.<\/p>\n

Seeing as Microsoft doesn\u2019t really explain very intuitively what\u2019s included, this render from Reddit<\/a> does a decent enough job:<\/p>\n

To be fair, games like this do tend to lean heavily into DLC, with Train Sim World 6<\/a> being another example of a game where you could feasibly spend hundreds of dollars on expansion packs.<\/p>\n

But $199.99 does seem extraordinarily expensive for the most premium edition of a game.<\/p>\n

Having said that, Sony\u2019s own PS Store<\/a> pre-order charts show people are willing to pay: in the UK<\/a>, for example, the Premium Deluxe edition is currently fifth at the time of writing. Standard, meanwhile, is seventh and Aviator is 21st.<\/p>\n

We tend to find that the majority of consumers pre-order the most expensive options for games, which is fascinating considering the current economic environment and the rising cost of software at launch.<\/p>\n
