{"id":245643,"date":"2025-11-05T16:55:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T16:55:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/245643\/"},"modified":"2025-11-05T16:55:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T16:55:08","slug":"watch-rocket-lab-launch-private-earth-observing-radar-satellite-to-orbit-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/245643\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch Rocket Lab launch private Earth-observing radar satellite to orbit today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"c0707a22-cb0a-4e62-9e93-2d41c7378699\">Rocket Lab will launch its sixth mission for the Japanese Earth-imaging company iQPS this afternoon (Nov. 5), and you can watch the action live.<\/p>\n<p>An <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/electron-rocket.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/electron-rocket.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Electron<\/a> rocket carrying the QPS-SAR-14 <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/24839-satellites.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/24839-satellites.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">satellite<\/a>, nicknamed Yachihoko-I, is scheduled to lift off from Rocket Lab&#8217;s New Zealand site today at 2:45 p.m. EST (1945 GMT; 8:45 a.m. on Nov. 6. local New Zealand time).<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"c0707a22-cb0a-4e62-9e93-2d41c7378699-2\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/rocket-lab.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/rocket-lab.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rocket Lab<\/a> will <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/rocketlabcorp.com\/live-stream\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/rocketlabcorp.com\/live-stream\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">webcast the launch<\/a>, beginning about 30 minutes before liftoff. Space.com will carry the feed as well, if, as expected, the company makes it available.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p id=\"0a80d1c7-37c6-4b89-ab76-d6468b71cfd0\">If all goes to plan today, the Electron&#8217;s &#8220;kick stage&#8221; will deploy Yachihoko-I into a circular, 357-mile-high (575 kilometers) orbit about 50 minutes after launch.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This satellite will join the rest of the QPS-SAR constellation in providing high-resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images and Earth monitoring services globally,&#8221; Rocket Lab wrote in a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/rocketlabcorp.com\/missions\/next-mission\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/rocketlabcorp.com\/missions\/next-mission\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">mission description<\/a>. &#8220;iQPS aims to build a constellation of 36 SAR satellites that will provide near-real-time images of Earth every 10 minutes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yachihoko-I will be the 13th (not 14th, as it name implies) iQPS satellite to reach orbit to date. Seven members of the growing constellation have flown atop non-Electron rockets to date \u2014 India&#8217;s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, Japan&#8217;s Epsilon and SpaceX&#8217;s <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18962-spacex-falcon-9.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18962-spacex-falcon-9.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Falcon 9<\/a>, to be specific.<\/p>\n<p id=\"7547680c-7c27-4277-900b-b184e7929849\">Yachihoko-I takes its name from the Japanese god of nation-building, according to Rocket Lab. That explains the moniker the company gave to today&#8217;s mission: &#8220;The Nation God Navigates.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">Breaking space news, the latest updates on rocket launches, skywatching events and more!<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s launch will be the 16th of 2025 for Rocket Lab and the company&#8217;s 74th overall to date. The vast majority of these have been conducted by the 59-foot-tall (18 meters) Electron.
