Rodgers\u2019 sudden resignation<\/a> shocked everyone outside of the club, but if Dermot Desmond\u2019s scathing statement<\/a> is anything to go by, it didn\u2019t surprise everyone in the building at Celtic Park.<\/a><\/p>\n For O\u2019Neill<\/a> and new assistant Shaun Maloney,<\/a> the task has been simple: win. They managed to do this in impressive fashion in their first game against Falkirk, as well as Sunday\u2019s 3-1 win over Rangers at Hampden.<\/a><\/p>\n Differences in their tactical approach have been noted and largely praised by fans. Maloney has now discussed them.<\/p>\n Shaun Maloney on Celtic\u2019s tactical differences under Martin O\u2019Neill<\/p>\n The Hoops\u2019 style of play was criticised under Rodgers<\/a> for being slow, pedestrian, turgid, et cetera.<\/p>\n From watching the games under O\u2019Neill, it certainly looks like the team have been instructed to address these issues more than anything.<\/p>\n READ MORE: Udinese boss demands more of Lennon Miller in blunt message after Celtic summer interest<\/a><\/p>\n With recent managerial experience at Hibernian and Wigan, Maloney has been brought to balance the finer tactical details, giving O\u2019Neill his input on big decisions.<\/p>\n Discussing them on Celtic TV,<\/a> Maloney revealed the biggest of the \u2018slight\u2019 tactical tweaks he has made since his move to become assistant manager.<\/p>\n He said: \u201cWe\u2019ve made slight changes in terms of anything tactical. I mean really slight.<\/p>\n \u201cProbably the biggest one is the mentality to try and hurt the team from behind, run more from the field and the wide players. \u201cBut again, these are things that sometimes you just have to remind them of.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve watched this team for four or five years and when they\u2019re at their best, they\u2019re a hell of a team.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t get too nervous. Even the Rangers game there on Sunday, I was fine. I think it felt different for Falkirk, just because of the 48 hours leading into it.<\/p>\n \u201cIt did feel different \u2013 it\u2019s the club I\u2019ve supported and came through at.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve enjoyed working with the staff. An unbelievable football structure here, that has made myself, Martin and Mark\u2019s job a lot easier, so I enjoy the winning.\u201d<\/p>\n Maloney was previously Player Pathways Manager, and it is in place for him to return to the role once a new permanent manager is appointed.<\/p>\n But if the team keeps getting results like they have been, the club might need a new Pathways Manager instead.<\/p>\n Shaun Maloney\u2019s coaching experience before Celtic<\/p>\n Celtic were the club where Maloney\u2019s coaching journey began, when he linked up with Rodgers to initially work with the club\u2019s reserve side.<\/p>\n He initially joined Roberto Martinez\u2019s<\/a> coaching staff at Belgium on a job-sharing basis, before making the move permanently.<\/p>\n![\"Celtic](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/GettyImages-2244054754-1024x742.jpg\")
