Liverpool are expected to make a formal approach for Alexander Isak, and Eddie Howe has now spoken publicly about his striker, continuing to leave the door open for a record transfer.<\/p>\n

Isak is exploring his options away from Newcastle<\/a> this summer, and Liverpool are reportedly \u201creadying a formal approach<\/a>\u201d for the Swede, who will demand a fee of at least \u00a3120 million.<\/p>\n

Newcastle<\/a> are chasing RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko and Brentford<\/a> striker Yoane Wissa to bolster their forward line, deals that are viewed as the preempting of Isak\u2019s departure.<\/p>\n

The Swede has stayed in England while Howe\u2019s squad travelled to Singapore, with a thigh injury cited as the reason rather than his known desire to make for the exit.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press ahead of Newcastle<\/a>\u2018s friendly against Arsenal<\/a>, Howe said there is \u201cno major update on his injury\u201d and that any decision \u201chas to be right for Newcastle<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course, there are things going on behind the scenes, and he\u2019ll be aware he\u2019s in the news every day and that\u2019s not easy for anyone in that situation,\u201d Howe told reporters.<\/p>\n

\u201cConversations that happen between Alex and myself, and Alex and the club will stay private. We do share a really good relationship with him; he\u2019s been magnificent for us.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s very popular in the dressing room. We\u2019d love him to continue his journey at Newcastle<\/a>, and all I would say is whatever happens has to be right for Newcastle<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re in a very strong position financially and we\u2019re determined to be successful, we\u2019re ambitious and we\u2019ve got a great season ahead of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

On contract talks with Isak, Howe added: \u201cAs far as I\u2019m aware, I don\u2019t think there\u2019s any contract talks taking place at the moment. I think that will be for a later date, potentially.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cI think, for now, with the situation as it is, and the state of the window in the sense that it\u2019s hurtling towards the end of the window very quickly from our perspective, there\u2019s so much that could happen.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose contract talks may potentially take place at a later date. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think I said against Celtic, I certainly hope he stays. I said I was confident he\u2019d stay and I don\u2019t see anything that\u2019s going to change that opinion of mine at the moment.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it\u2019s football, so who knows what the future might bring.\u201d<\/p>\n
