Two of Ireland\u2019s top coaches \u2013 Matt Teggart and Barry Monaghan, both former international riders \u2013 are teaming up to offer Irish cyclists the chance to take in a winter training camp in Spain just before Christmas.<\/p>\n
They are being aided this time around by current top C1 riders Gareth O\u2019Neill and John Buller, who will lead some of the rides. This year\u2019s training week goes ahead after the runaway success of last year\u2019s camps.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re trying to give the \u2018pro cyclist\u2019 experience to everyone,\u201d said Teggart. \u201cSo it\u2019s about going out to Calpe, getting the miles in, getting guidance from myself and Barry and also from Gareth and John.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut it\u2019s also a break and a bit of fun; a bit of a getaway from the Irish winter, mixing and training with other cyclists and just getting a quality week in on the bike. Everyone really benefitted it from it last year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe December camp is a little more relaxed. It\u2019s focused on enjoyment, steady miles, and good company, rather than full-gas efforts every day.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Monaghan was an international rider in the 1990s and has been a cycling coach for many years, Teggart has more recently hung up his racing wheels, though he has also been coaching for several years now.<\/p>\n
During his racing days he was a R\u00e1s Tailteann stage winner and yellow jersey, held the climbers\u2019 jersey at Tour de l\u2019Avenir, won the sprints classification at Tour of Britain and rode at UCI Continental level; also representing Ireland many times, to Europeans and Worlds level.<\/p>\n
For his part, Buller has raced in France for several seasons, has been Irish criterium champion twice and both he and O\u2019Neill have won many of the biggest races in the country. O\u2019Neill, whose winning run continued this year on the home scene, is also a qualified nutritionist.<\/p>\n
Teggart told stickybottle the depth of experience all four had built up means they can offer advice on the week-long camp in Spain that all the riders can continue to use in their racing and training long term. \u201cBut there will also be plenty of sunshine and coffee stops as well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The week away in Calpe is from December 1st to 6th, staying at Hotel Ifach \u2013 half board, with breakfast and dinner included.<\/p>\n
The trip \u2013 which costs \u00a3699 \u2013 includes:<\/p>\n
