{"id":247961,"date":"2025-11-06T20:06:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T20:06:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/247961\/"},"modified":"2025-11-06T20:06:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T20:06:07","slug":"microsoft-ai-says-itll-make-superintelligent-ai-that-wont-be-terrible-for-humanity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/247961\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft AI says it\u2019ll make superintelligent AI that won\u2019t be terrible for humanity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Microsoft AI wants you to know that its work toward superintelligence involves keeping humans \u201cat the top of the food chain.\u201d In <a href=\"https:\/\/microsoft.ai\/news\/towards-humanist-superintelligence\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a lengthy blog post on Thursday<\/a>, Microsoft AI head Mustafa Suleyman highlighted the formation of a new team dedicated to developing a \u201chumanist superintelligence\u201d that\u2019s \u201cdesigned only to serve humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">This kind of superintelligence, according to Suleyman, won\u2019t be \u201can unbounded and unlimited entity with high degrees of autonomy\u201d and will instead be \u201ccarefully calibrated, contextualized, within limits.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/3\/25\/24111931\/microsoft-windows-surface-pavan-davuluri\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Suleyman joined Microsoft<\/a> last year as the CEO of Microsoft AI, which has only recently launched its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/767809\/microsoft-in-house-ai-models-launch-openai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">first in-house models<\/a> for text, voice, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/813789\/microsoft-in-house-ai-image-generator-mai-image-1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">and image generation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Though Suleyman\u2019s blog post says Microsoft AI will \u201creject narratives about a race to AGI,\u201d the competition between Microsoft and OpenAI is about to get much more intense. Under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/807875\/openai-microsoft-for-profit-agi\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a new deal with OpenAI<\/a>, Microsoft can now \u201cindependently pursue AGI alone or in partnership with third parties.\u201d And, as pointed out by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/ai-artificial-intelligence\/808434\/openai-for-profit-restructuring-microsoft-deal-agi-wars\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">my colleague Hayden Field<\/a>, \u201cMicrosoft is perfectly within its legal rights to use OpenAI\u2019s IP to develop its own AGI and attempt to win the race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">But Suleyman has a vision for \u201chumanist\u201d superintelligence with three main applications, which include serving as an AI companion that will help people \u201clearn, act, be productive, and feel supported,\u201d offering assistance in the healthcare industry, and creating \u201cnew scientific breakthroughs\u201d in clean energy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">\u201cAt Microsoft AI, we believe humans matter more than AI,\u201d Suleyman writes. \u201cHumanist superintelligence keeps us humans at the centre of the picture.
