But we really need to see more than one number.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Inflation pressures due to Reeves<\/p>\n<p>The survey also suggested that a large proportion of firms still planned to raise prices and cut staff in response to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityam.com\/will-the-autumn-budget-push-up-inflation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Rachel Reeves<\/a>\u2019 \u00a325bn tax raid on employers\u2019 national insurance contributions (NICs) last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It came despite a comment in the Bank\u2019s monetary policy report stating that costs of higher payroll budgets from the tax hike had already been \u201cpassed through\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A slightly higher percentage of firms (43 per cent) said they would lower the number of employees due to the NICs raid compared to September. More than a third (38 per cent) said they were planning to raise prices.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Analysts said higher inflation expectations among Brits should send a warning to policymakers looking to cut interest rates at the next MPC meeting.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis urges some caution in rushing to lower rates,\u201d Ellie Henderson, an economist at Investec, said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy the time of the December meeting there will be far more evidence on which to base a decision.
