{"id":249280,"date":"2025-11-07T12:24:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T12:24:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/249280\/"},"modified":"2025-11-07T12:24:13","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T12:24:13","slug":"closed-golf-course-could-reopen-after-five-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/249280\/","title":{"rendered":"Closed golf course could reopen after five years"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\tLocated on the Shropshire\/Staffordshire border, it&#8217;s been five years since the historic\u00a0Patshull Park Estate was closed as the pandemic took hold and sent the business into liquidation.<\/p>\n<p>\tIts 214 acres were once home to a hotel and golf course that are all rich with heritage, but they could now be given a new lease of life after\u00a0Ian Bonser, President of the UK Golf Federation, and renowned rose breeder, David Austin, purchased the venue for an undisclosed sum.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\tThey have now pledged to restore the site to its former glory.<\/p>\n<p>\tThe impressive estate includes Lancelot \u2018Capability\u2019 Brown-designed grounds, a Grade II-listed Doric Temple, a redundant hotel, and a former golf course, all set within a quintessentially English landscape of lakes, woodland, and parkland.<\/p>\n<p>\tAustin and Bonser both have deep roots in the area and share a passion for preserving and revitalising local heritage. Together, they plan to develop Patshull Park into a multi-functional destination that celebrates its natural beauty and rich history.<\/p>\n<p>\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Patshull Park\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/PAT-1131_jmstat.jpg\" style=\"width: 640px; height: 320px;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t&#8220;Patshull Park holds a fascinating history and an abundance of potential,&#8221; said David Austin. &#8220;We\u2019re proud to be taking on the stewardship of such an important local landmark and are committed to restoring it sensitively for future generations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\tIan Bonser added: &#8220;Our vision is to honour the past while creating a sustainable future for Patshull Park &#8211; one that brings together leisure, heritage, and community in a truly special setting.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\tThe estate\u2019s grounds epitomise the work of \u2018Capability\u2019 Brown, whose renowned landscapes include Blenheim Palace, Warwick Castle, Chatsworth, and Highclere Castle. The property also features a fishing lodge and an additional multi-purpose building near the entrance, providing further scope for future development.<\/p>\n<p>\tDating back to before the Norman Conquest, Patshull Park\u2019s history is interwoven with that of the region, with records of a settlement in the Domesday Book.\u00a0 The acquisition by Austin and Bonser will continue this rich vein by creating a valuable space for the local community to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>\tBefore its closure, Golfshake Ambassador Mel Davies played Patshull Park in 2019, which he wrote about in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfshake.com\/course\/news\/14228\/Patshull_Park_Hotel_Golf_Country_Club_Feature_Review.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">this detailed review<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\tConcluding, Mel said:\u00a0&#8220;Patshull Park is a course that you can see has been well looked after and the staff and members have a course to be proud of.
