{"id":249915,"date":"2025-11-07T19:54:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T19:54:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/249915\/"},"modified":"2025-11-07T19:54:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T19:54:10","slug":"im-not-going-pga-tour-star-shuts-down-rumors-of-a-move-to-liv-golf-golfwrx","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/249915\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018I\u2019m not going\u2019 \u2013 PGA Tour star shuts down rumors of a move to LIV Golf \u2013 GolfWRX"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rory McIlroy\u2019s reaction to the news that LIV would be changing their format from a 54-hole tour to a 72-hole tour from next year garnered plenty of attention this week.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking ahead of this week\u2019s Abu Dhabi Championship, McIlroy called the decision \u201cpeculiar\u201d, saying:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s a peculiar move because I think they could have got ranking points with three rounds. I don\u2019t think three rounds versus four rounds is what was holding them back\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to Rory\u2019s comments, Lee Westwood hit back while appearing on the <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/golf\/3710796\/rory-mcilroy-liv-golf-rule-change-lee-westwood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">TalkSport Breakfast Show<\/a>, saying:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know. I don\u2019t pay too much attention to what Rory says. He\u2019ll change his mind for next week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Discussing the change in format, the Englishman called the move good for players, sponsors and fans, stating:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it was good for the players, good for the sponsors. And good for the fans more than anything. They get to see another day\u2019s golf.<\/p>\n<p>I think (ranking points) is one of the angles behind it. I think there were a few different things. Some of the guys focused their whole season around the major championships and playing 54 holes was putting them at a bit of a disadvantage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Westwood added:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think they wanted to play 72 holes \u2013 that represented more the major championship format. But world rankings is one of the things on LIV\u2019s mind.
