The Rambo<\/a> franchise is set to return as Jalmari Helander<\/a> prepares to explore the origins of Sylvester Stallone\u2019s John Rambo in a new prequel film. In a recent interview, the director revealed that the upcoming installment will take a different and lighter approach than the previous two films.<\/p>\n

The Sisu<\/a> director has recently opened up about his vision for the upcoming Rambo prequel, revealing that the film will take a more \u201cadventurous\u201d approach.<\/p>\n

In a recent interview with Dexerto<\/a>, Jalmari Helander discussed his plans for the project, which will explore John Rambo\u2019s early years during the Vietnam War. Talking about the shift in tone, he said, \u201cIt won\u2019t be as dark as the last two Rambos,\u201d referencing Rambo (2008) and Rambo: Last Blood<\/a> (2019).<\/p>\n

Both of the previous movies focused on Sylvester Stallone\u2019s character, John Rambo\u2019s brutal missions in Burma and Mexico, respectively. Helander added, \u201cIt\u2019s going to be a little more adventurous, and I hope to inspire a new generation of 10-year-olds to go into the forest to play Rambo. Let\u2019s see how that goes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new film will serve as a prequel, focusing on the events that shaped the character before the story of Rambo: First Blood<\/a> (1982). The new film will explore John Rambo\u2019s early years. Moreover, it will delve into his experiences during the Vietnam War and the events that \u201cshaped one of cinema\u2019s most memorable action heroes.\u201d<\/p>\n

In October, Jalmari Helander confirmed to the outlet that he was preparing for production, noting that he will travel to Bangkok for \u201chard prep.\u201d The filming will reportedly begin in January 2026. Meanwhile, as per the publication, the prequel will reportedly star Noah Centineo<\/a> as a young John Rambo, with final negotiations currently underway.<\/p>\n

While there is no confirmed release date for the prequel yet, Helander\u2019s recent comments have sparked excitement amongst fans.<\/p>\n
