{"id":250399,"date":"2025-11-08T01:56:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-08T01:56:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/250399\/"},"modified":"2025-11-08T01:56:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-08T01:56:11","slug":"why-hamilton-avoided-grip-drop-for-brazil-yellow-flag-breach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/250399\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Hamilton avoided grip drop for Brazil yellow flag breach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lewis Hamilton has been reprimanded for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-race.com\/formula-1\/hamilton-investigation-leclerc-brazil-sprint-qualifying-spin\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">failing to slow under double-waved yellow flags<\/a> caused by his Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc in Brazilian Grand Prix sprint qualifying.<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton was eliminated in the second part of Friday\u2019s qualifying session and will start Saturday\u2019s sprint race from 11th after avoiding a grid penalty despite being found by the stewards to have breached the rules.<\/p>\n<p>The seven-time world champion was unfortunate to encounter a very short double-waved yellow while in sector two when Leclerc briefly spun exiting Turn 10.<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton appeared to barely slow in reaction to the incident and went faster in that mini-sector of the track, but did not improve his overall laptime.<\/p>\n<p>He said in his stewards\u2019 hearing that he did not see the light panels that were activated on the left-hand side of the track just as he was turning into the right-hander, which the stewards said \u201cwas only illuminated for a fraction of a second\u201d before Hamilton passed it.<\/p>\n<p>At that point, Hamilton was looking right through the corner. But he said during the hearing he saw Leclerc\u2019s car, and a green light signal on the exit of the corner, so the stewards felt he \u201chad to realise that he was at least in a yellow sector and as a consequence had to reduce speed discernibly\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The telemetry assessed by the stewards revealed Hamilton hesitated while applying the throttle, \u201cbut did not reduce speed as required\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>For reasons of \u201cconsistency\u201d, though, the stewards felt this merited a reprimand rather than the standard five-place grid penalty specified in officials\u2019 guidelines, because of the specific circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m 11th now, so just have to have some fun from there,\u201d Hamilton said of his sprint prospects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think at this point it&#8217;s just about having fun.
