The problem \u2013 if you can call it that \u2013 is that Rose then went and won the FedEx St Jude Championship, the first of the three PGA Tour season-ending playoffs, and secured an automatic spot on Luke Donald\u2019s team at Bethpage. <\/p>\n
And his experience in New York, where he put two points on the board to take his personal tally to 17-and-a-half and move into the all-time top 10<\/a>, has left Rose thirsty for more.<\/p>\n A report<\/a> by The Telegraph\u2018s James Corrigan earlier this week said sources close to the Englishman confirmed he wants to pull on the blue and gold for an eighth time. <\/p>\n TG has subsequently reached out to Rose\u2019s team, who confirmed that he \u201cdoes want to play in another one\u201d, but also he has yet to have any discussions with Ryder Cup Europe\u2019s decision makers as he concentrates on enjoying his downtime after 20 events in eight months. <\/p>\n Rose made it clear in that interview at Renaissance that he isn\u2019t interested in a player-captain role. \u201cI\u2019m not sure that\u2019s a role we should be entertaining really,\u201d he said<\/a>. \u201cI think there would need to be very extenuating circumstances for that to be the case.\u201d<\/p>\n That leaves the panel of selectors with a choice of two. Do they give Donald a third go at it? While the 47-year-old is apparently \u201cless than 50-50\u201d, according to Corrigan, if he decides he wants to do it, then it\u2019s going to be very hard for Ryder Cup Europe to deny him a shot at becoming the first captain to ever win three in a row.<\/p>\n The headache it causes, though, is that it immediately moves away from the organization\u2019s plan to have captains work on two-tournament cycles moving forward \u2013 first leading at a home Ryder Cup<\/a> before tackling an away match.<\/p>\n If Donald decides he\u2019s happy to stick on two, then Francesco Molinari will be the favorite to take the role. <\/p>\n His brother, Edoardo, has already ruled himself out<\/a> of ever getting the top job, preferring instead to focus on his role as the team\u2019s lead statistician.
