In an appearance on Absolute Radio, Richard Hammond admitted that he believes that some cyclists have the wrong attitude towards safety.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The former Top Gear presenter criticised \u201cthis idea that you can cycle around and then it\u2019s everybody else\u2019s job\u201d to keep you safe. It\u2019s your right to be safe\u2026 It\u2019s not!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
He said that he \u201chas been riding bikes for 40 years and I\u2019m still alive because I look everywhere and I assume, they\u2019re going to pull out of that junction.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, they\u2019re going to close that gap. Yeah, they\u2019re going to turn left on me and squash me. I\u2019m just surprised when they don\u2019t\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
He does clarify that \u201ccar drivers who don\u2019t look, bad,\u201d and that he is \u201cbikes before cars, actually.”<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m going to have a horrible time,\u201d he added, aware that what he is saying is controversial, and has since been met with criticism on Facebook.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s right up to a point, but the safest, most responsible cyclist can still be wiped out by a bad driver. The safest, most responsible driver can\u2019t really be harmed by a bad cyclist,\u201d said Richard Gracie.\u00a0<\/p>\n
David Price said, \u201cWhat so often gets overlooked in these discussions is the impact (which is rather what Richard is pointing out), and it\u2019s really important.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou get bad motorists, and you get bad cyclists, but the reason why it\u2019s more important that motorists are careful is that \u2026<\/p>\n
