Ryanair<\/a> has refused to refund man unable to fly out to Austria<\/a> to watch a football match after sustaining injuries in the Huntingdon train stabbing.<\/p>\n The famously uncompromising Irish low cost airline told 61-year-old Stephen Crean he should\u2019ve taken out insurance to be reimbursed for his flight.<\/p>\n Mr Crean was one of 11 passengers on an LNER train to London<\/a> taken to hospital after he was stabbed seven times while trying to confront the knifeman.<\/p>\n He was forced to cancel an awaited trip to see his side Nottingham Forest<\/a> take on Austrian team Sturm Graz in the Europa League<\/a> on Thursday.<\/p>\n But Ryanair stuck rigidly to its \u2018no cancellations\u2019 policy, insisting that all its fares are non-refundable.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\tSign up for all of the latest stories\t\t\t<\/p>\n Start your day informed with Metro’s News Updates<\/a> newsletter or get Breaking News<\/a> alerts the moment it happens. <\/p>\n It said in a statement: \u2018All Ryanair air fares are non-refundable, which is why we strongly recommend passengers take out travel insurance in order to protect themselves if they can\u2019t travel.\u2019<\/p>\n According to the carrier\u2019s terms and conditions, the sole possible valid reason for a refund is the bereavement of a close family member, such as a parent, child or partner.<\/p>\n \t\t Mr Crean recalled scenes of panic as the train travelled through Cambridgeshire<\/a>.<\/p>\n He said he made his way down the train through the buffet car after hearing passengers scream in another carriage.<\/p>\n The stabber, he recalled, was brandishing an \u2018oversized kitchen knife\u2019.<\/p>\n Another passenger named Astrid told the BBC<\/a> that Mr Crean had \u2018saved her life\u2019 after putting his body between her and the attacker.<\/p>\n Mr Crean sustained injuries to his back, hand, head and bottom before managing to hide himself in a toilet.<\/p>\n He was later found by police and taken to Addenbrooke\u2019s hospital, from where he was discharged on Sunday.<\/p>\n \t\t However he explained he is still awaiting plastic surgery and has stitches on all his fingers.<\/p>\n \u2018I don\u2019t know how long it\u2019s going to take\u2019, he said, when asked about his recovery.<\/p>\n Nottingham<\/a> Forest donated \u00a310,000 towards his treatment via a fundraiser set up by club fans, which has since raised more than \u00a350,000.<\/p>\n The club has also reportedly offered Mr Crean a free season ticket for next year and an invitation to fly with the team to a Europa League match.<\/p>\n The train attacker, Anthony Williams, 32, has since been charged on 10 counts of attempted murder.<\/p>\n Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@metro.co.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n For more stories like this, check our news page<\/a>.<\/p>\n Arrow Arrow Arrow![\"File](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/SEI_272864789-3b36.jpg\")
