ITV Good Morning Britain star Adil Ray has been reportedly hauled in by bosses after appearing to back Sharia law in New York after mayor Zohran Mamdani\u2019s win. Ray\u2019s comments came after fellow Mamdani was voted in as the mayor of New York.<\/p>\n

Mr Ray posted: \u201cSome say Mamdani may implement Sharia Law. He might. The heart of Sharia is social justice, welfare, fairness, charity and cohesion.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost Muslim countries operate a hybrid of Sharia & civil law, are slowly reforming and abandoning unethical practices despite the West\u2019s portrayal.\u201d<\/p>\n

In response to the comments from the BBC<\/a> Citizen Khan star, an ITV<\/a> viewer fumed: \u201cTake your Sharia law and f*** off.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another said: \u201cThis will be your undoing.\u201d<\/p>\n

A source said to the Sun newspaper: \u201cGMB execs are pretty cross. His comments sent bosses into a tailspin and he was called in.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a nightmare as hours earlier ITV revealed it was in talks to sell its broadcasting arm to Sky in a \u00a31.6billion deal. Obviously, they don\u2019t want anything to derail that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Ray later posted: \u201cTo clarify, I am not actually suggesting Mamdani would implement sharia law.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut many issues he campaigned for are some of the positive values of Sharia that Muslims try to live by. Something many of us would agree on.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old democratic socialist and state assembly member from Queens, secured victory with more than 50% of the vote. Cuomo, 67, finished second with just over 40%, while Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa received just over 7% of the vote.<\/p>\n

Mamdani, speaking to supporters in Brooklyn after a decisive victory over Andrew Cuomo, the former governor, said New York<\/a> had shown it would be the \u201clight\u201d in a \u201cmoment of political darkness\u201d.<\/p>\n
