To the right of the building is another building with several storeys.\" class=\"sc-5340b511-0 hLdNfA\"\/>Leeds Civic Trust<\/p>\n<p>The Roger Stevens Building was chosen in a public vote<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">A University of Leeds landmark which houses 25 lecture theatres has been voted the city&#8217;s favourite building of the last 60 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Built in the 1970s, the Roger Stevens Building was given the People&#8217;s Choice Award as part of the Leeds Architecture Awards 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">It was chosen by a public vote from a shortlist of 10 nominations, including Bridgewater Place and Victoria Gate, all of which were built in Leeds between 1965 and 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Martin Hamilton, from Leeds Civic Trust, said the building had an &#8220;elegance and sculptural quality&#8221; to it which set it apart from many built at the same time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Described on the university&#8217;s website as &#8220;fusing together 1950s architectural design with a contemporary infrastructure throughout many of the theatres&#8221;, the building is situated in the heart of the campus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">It is named after a British academic, diplomat and civil servant, as well as the vice-chancellor of the university from 1963 to 1970.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1762572431_487_grey-placeholder.png\" class=\"sc-5340b511-0 gUePlo hide-when-no-script\" aria-label=\"image unavailable\"\/><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/81ab6af0-bb2e-11f0-a9c7-018c8fe15fae.jpg.webp.webp\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Leeds Civic Trust A large, modern building with a curved metallic roof.
