When the green light finally came to start rehabilitation, progress came quickly. \u201cAt first they thought I\u2019d have to stay in a centre day and night, but then they saw my recovery was going well and allowed me to follow an outpatient programme. That was a big motivation boost,\u201d he explained. \u201cWe chose the Fisiology Centre in Forl\u00ec, where I already knew the staff \u2014 super-motivating and very professional. The recovery went well right away, especially at the muscular level, which was the main thing I\u2019d lost.\u201d<\/p>\n
Step by step, but with a smile<\/p>\n
Now back training under the desert sun, the Italian talent \u2013 a former U23 world champion and 2025 Baloise Belgium Tour winner \u2013 is relishing every small milestone. \u201cI feel calmer now. I\u2019m happier. I\u2019m back on the bike, and everything immediately felt better,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy bones are fine, everything\u2019s solid, so I\u2019ve been able to return fairly quickly to normality. Obviously, it has to go step by step. I\u2019d love to go straight out for four-hour rides and train properly again, but it\u2019s really like starting from scratch, especially for the cardiovascular system. The goal is to get my heart rate and conditioning back to normal.\u201d<\/p>\n
The first outdoor rides came after weeks of walking, indoor cycling and therapy. \u201cThe main issue now is muscle and joint stiffness,\u201d he admitted. \u201cI\u2019m working on it with osteopaths and physiotherapists.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt felt like re-joining the peloton\u201d<\/p>\n
Baroncini\u2019s reunion with his UAE teammates in Dubai was as emotional as it was symbolic \u2014 a return to the sport and the group that had rallied behind him through his darkest weeks. \u201cIt was a great emotion, like I\u2019d drifted away from the group and finally rejoined it,\u201d he smiled. \u201cIt was exactly what I needed: to be back with the team, to show I\u2019m here, to share how things are going. Everyone was amazed at how well I\u2019m recovering.\u201d<\/p>\n
That first ride under the desert sun was the moment he had longed for. \u201cThat was the emotion I was waiting for the most \u2014 even more than finding out how my body would react. I didn\u2019t expect to say, \u2018Wow, I feel great, I\u2019m ready again.\u2019 No \u2014 I just wanted to rediscover myself doing what I\u2019ve always done.\u201d<\/p>\n
Now, his comeback programme is steadily ramping up. \u201cMy coach has started uploading sessions on TrainingPeaks, so having a weekly plan already feels like a big step. Gradually, day by day, I\u2019m increasing the load \u2014 sometimes double sessions: gym in the morning, bike in the afternoon, or vice versa.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gratitude above all<\/p>\n
Through it all, Baroncini has remained grounded and thankful for the support that carried him through. \u201cSo many people have written to me throughout this time,\u201d he said. \u201cMy lifelong friends came to visit, and then all the team management \u2014 including president Matar Suhail, Matxin, Gianetti \u2014 plus some teammates like Covi. Even federation president Cordiano Dagnoni came to see me. It meant so much to see all those people showing such closeness and support.\u201d<\/p>\n
