A number of homes have been evacuated and a street taped off after a suspected grenade was discovered in Stockport<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called out to an area just off Gorton<\/a> Road, in Reddish<\/a>, at 12.30pm this afternoon (July 26).<\/p>\n

Greater Manchester Police<\/a> says it was called out to a suspected grenade being found.<\/p>\n

The unexploded device is believed to be historic, the Manchester Evening News understands.<\/p>\n

Police say a small number of homes were evacuated as a precaution and a bomb disposal team is on its way to the scene.<\/p>\n

A number of homes on Gorton Road near to the business centre can be seen inside the cordon.<\/p>\n

A GMP spokesperson said: “At around 12.30pm today, officers received a call regarding a suspected grenade being discovered in an area of land near Gorton Road, North Reddish.<\/p>\n

\"AA cordon in place on Gorton Road(Image: Manchester Window Tints)<\/p>\n

“Addresses in the immediate area have been evacuated as a precautionary measure and EOD [explosive ordnance disposal] are en-route to the scene.<\/p>\n

“There are not believed to be suspicious circumstances regarding the discovery.”<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service added: \u201cJust after 1pm on Saturday, July 26, fire crews were called to assist after the discovery of a suspected grenade near Gorton Road, Reddish.<\/p>\n

“Fire engines from Whitehill, Stockport and Ashton<\/a> stations were quickly mobilised to the scene.<\/p>\n
