We\u2019ve been looking at the impact of Typhoon Fung-wong which hit the Philippines over the weekend, leaving at least two people dead and forcing the evacuation of around 1.4 million.<\/p>\n

In one clip which has been shared on X and Facebook we can see an enormous wave rising above roof height at a village on the coast of Gigmoto, Catanduanes. The houses appear to stay intact, but water passes in between them and forms almost a river in the street behind.<\/p>\n

We checked the buildings seen in the footage with available satellite imagery. Handily the village is covered by Google Street View meaning we could get a close-up match with one two-storey house in particular that is in the video as well as comparing palm trees and telephone cables.<\/p>\n

In another clip that has been widely shared this morning a huge wave is seen to crash through a coastal resort on Luzon island in the north of the Philippines. As the person filming runs from the wave their camera picks out a sign showing it is the LA Sunshine Beach Resort in Dinadiawan, a village in Aurora province.<\/p>\n

We have checked the resort\u2019s Facebook page and can see it has been closed for renovations.<\/p>\n
