\n\tChappell Roan<\/a> said she was \u201chonored\u201d to play a part in inducting Cyndi Lauper<\/a> into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame<\/a>, calling the pop legend<\/a> \u201creally fucking awesome and so bold and badass and absolutely walks the walk.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an Instagram<\/a> post featuring several photos from this weekend\u2019s induction ceremony, Roan said of Lauper, \u201cShe has played an instrumental role in my artistry, fashion, glam, voice, movement, all of it. I shed several tears\u2026 I look up to her so very much.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tRoan then recalled singing Lauper\u2019s 1986 hit, \u201cTrue Colors,\u201d at a talent show when she was 14. \u201cI ended up winning first place for the first time,\u201d she wrote. \u201cIt was the first moment I thought maybe singing could be a thing for me. Thank you @cyndilauper for laying the groundwork for artists like me to thrive. P.s.\u00a0 I agree with you rock & roll will save the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tRoan made her love of \u201cTrue Colors\u201d part of her presence at the Rock Hall ceremony. She combined replicas of two outfits Lauper wore in the video for the song, showing up in a skirt made of torn-up newspaper and an elaborate chandelier-like headpiece.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tIn her speech, Roan celebrated Lauper\u2019s \u201ccourage\u201d as an artist, which \u201cnot only creates incredible art that gives everyone who experiences it the permission to be themselves \u2014 it opens their hearts, it changes their mind, and that is its power.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile Roan is certainly one of Lauper\u2019s pop progeny, Lauper has also raved about Roan. In an interview with Playbill<\/a> last year, Lauper said of Roan\u2019s music, \u201cSuch dusky, yearning keyboard pop\u2026 This is just incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing Roan\u2019s introduction, Lauper sang \u201cTrue Colors\u201d and \u201cTime After Time,\u201d accompanied by Raye on the latter. Avril Lavigne and fellow inductees, Salt-N-Pepa, also joined for Lauper\u2019s final song, \u201cGirls Just Wanna Have Fun.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
