Andy Murray<\/a> has been enjoying life in retirement since hanging up his racket at last year\u2019s Olympic Games. The three-time Major winner has spent plenty of time on the golf course<\/a>, he has signed new brand deals<\/a> with the likes of Purina and Albert Bartlett<\/a>, and he even coached Novak Djokovic<\/a> earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Murray has now appeared on the latest episode of Romesh Ranganathan\u2019s podcast, where he tried his hand at another new sport, though one that was a little more familiar to him – table tennis. The former world No. 1 gave it large to Ranganathan when the game started, and was then left red-faced when he came out on the losing end, walking out of the room.<\/p>\n

At the start of the episode<\/a>, Ranganathan presented the two-time Olympic champion with a special gift – a small table tennis board, with foosball and ice hockey built in.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, you\u2019re retired from tennis, you\u2019re somebody who likes to keep yourself occupied, so we thought we could provide you with potentially a new hobby, and that\u2019s where this gift comes from,\u201d the comedian said.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook at that! That is very kind of you. I used to play at one of my friends\u2019 houses, table tennis,\u201d Murray said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is pretty cool. Genuinely, I do like it, because I think the kids will enjoy that. That is very kind of you.\u201d<\/p>\n

The producers suggested they have a game at the end of the episode, but both men seemed hesitant. \u201cRomesh can\u2019t hit a ball,\u201d Murray joked.<\/p>\n

But they were both up for it by the time they\u2019d finished chatting, and had a quick game of table tennis to wrap up the podcast. \u201cAfter the, sort of, the abuse about his physical abilities, I really don\u2019t want to lose this now, do I?\u201d the retired tennis champion said.<\/p>\n

It was best-of-three points, and Ranganathan had a tough start when he hit the ball too hard, sending it beyond the board. Murray laid into the comedian about his technique.<\/p>\n

The former world No. 1 exclaimed: \u201cIt\u2019s so bad! It\u2019s probably not going to look that bad on camera, but the lack of feel is wild. It\u2019s wild. You\u2019ve hit that so hard. It\u2019s a tiny little table, it\u2019s just a little tap. What do you mean, you didn\u2019t know? It\u2019s a tiny little table.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, on the very next point, Murray did exactly what Ranganathan had just done and hit the ball off the board. He raised his head in frustration and covered his face, mortified that his words had come back to haunt him.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have hit that so hard. It was wild. Just a bit of feel,\u201d Ranganathan said, mocking Murray, who \u201ccouldn\u2019t believe\u201d what he\u2019d just done.<\/p>\n
