{"id":256691,"date":"2025-11-11T11:27:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T11:27:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/256691\/"},"modified":"2025-11-11T11:27:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T11:27:11","slug":"interstellar-comet-3i-atlas-aka-c-2025-n1-atlas-the-ion-tail-is-getting-longer-11-nov-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/256691\/","title":{"rendered":"Interstellar comet 3I\/ATLAS (aka C\/2025 N1 ATLAS): the ion tail is getting longer &#8211; 11 Nov. 2025."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Exploiting the unusual good weather of this season, we imaged the interstellar comet 3I\/ATLAS (C\/2025 N1 ATLAS) again, recording a much more developed ion tail.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/3i_11nov25_a250_masi.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-206688\" class=\"wp-image-206688\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/3i_11nov25_a250_masi.jpg\" alt=\"The interstellar comet 3I\/ATLAS, imaged on 11 Nov. 2025.\" width=\"800\" height=\"691\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-206688\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The interstellar comet 3I\/ATLAS, imaged on 11 Nov. 2025.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The image above comes from the sigma-clipping combination of 18, 120-second exposures, remotely taken with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.virtualtelescope.eu\/the-artec-10%e2%80%b3-f-4-5-250-1125-mm-astrograph-paramount-me-moravian-c3-pro-61000ec\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ARTEC250+Paramount ME+C3Pro61000EC<\/a> robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy. The comet was 14 deg. above the easter horizon, with a bright (phase: 61%) Moon at about 70 degrees from it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Looking at the picture, we see how the ion tail of 3I\/ATLAS is clearly showing better and better, thanks to the improving perspective. We could see it spanning at least 0.7 degrees, in the NE direction.
