A man who was found dead in a field in Kilmacolm<\/a> has been named as cops launched a murder probe.<\/p>\n

Robert Best was discovered after police were called to a report of a body being discovered in a field near High Mathernock Farm in the Inverclyde town at around 9.20am on Tuesday, November 11.<\/p>\n

The man has been formally identified as the 50-year-old, who was reported missing<\/a> from Greenock on the same day. His family has been made aware.<\/p>\n

Two men, aged 44 and 51, have been arrested and charged in connection with the death.<\/p>\n

Both were due to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

A 45-year-old man was arrested in connection with assault and released pending further enquiries.<\/p>\n

Officers investigating Robert’s death are continuing to carry out enquiries into a report of a disturbance in Lansbury Street, Greenock, which took place between 11pm on Monday and 3am on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Robert’s friends and family have been left devastated following the news and tributes have poured in on social media.<\/p>\n

His heartbroken daughter Tia Darroch wrote: “Rest in peace Dad”, while his son Robert Darroch added: “RIP Dad.”<\/p>\n

Robert Joyce said: “Rest in peace Dad. No one deserves that.”<\/p>\n

Danielle Frizzell added: “I’m so sorry. My heart goes out to you. Rest in peace uncle Robert.”<\/p>\n

Kirsty Best said: “RIP cuz you didn\u2019t deserve this. You will be missed surely.”<\/p>\n

Stacey Maria Mains wrote: “RIP Robert. Thinking off all the family totally heartbroken for you. Love you all.”<\/p>\n

Karen Johnston wrote<\/a>: “My heart and thoughts go out to family and friends. I\u2019m so sorry for your loss.”<\/p>\n

Police were continuing to search the field in Kilmacolm on Wednesday following the discovery of the body<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pictures show a large area of the field cordoned off with multiple officers in uniform present<\/a>. Cops could be seen taking forensic tarpaulin from a van to erect at the scene.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, forensic officers<\/a> were spotted in the garden of the home on Lansbury Street. A forensic tent was erected at the site as multiple officers stood guard.<\/p>\n

The road was locked off between Poplar Street and Smillie Street as the investigation commenced.<\/p>\n

Detective Chief Inspector Graham McCreadie said: \u201cOur thoughts are with Robert\u2019s family and friends at this time. We are providing them with support as our investigation continues.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn extensive investigation is being carried out and I am asking anyone who was in the Lansbury Street area or near High Mathernock Farm at those times to get in touch.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you have CCTV, private footage or dash-cam footage of that may have captured something, please contact us. Any information, no matter how small it may seem, could be vital.\u201d<\/p>\n

An online portal has been set up to encourage members of the public to submit information directly to officers.<\/p>\n
