Rory McIlroy has fully earned the title as a \u2018living legend\u2019 with a new golfing award to be named after him.<\/p>\n

The Northern Irishman will be unable to win the prize for obvious reasons, but he\u2019s instead been left \u2018honoured and humbled\u2019 by such a reward for an incredible 2025.<\/p>\n

This year saw McIlroy win his first major in 11 years, but it was so much more than that.<\/p>\n

His Masters win at Augusta in April earned him his first green jacket, and also a career clean sweep of all four majors.<\/p>\n

Only six men in history have achieved that \u2018Grand Slam\u2019 and, with McIlroy the first European to do, so the DP World Tour<\/a> have announced the \u2018Rory McIlroy Award\u2019.<\/p>\n

It will go to the player who accumulates the most points from the four majors that count towards the \u2018Race to Dubai\u2019 season finale<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The creation of the award was announced at this year\u2019s 2025 Dubai event where McIlroy is looking to win his seventh title<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Discussing the news, he said: \u201cTo have something named after you, that will be presented to future generations of players, is a huge honour and it is very humbling.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt certainly means a lot to me because the DP World Tour was where I started my career. I\u2019ve always loved playing on it and, of course, representing Europe and the Tour in the Ryder Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m incredibly proud to be the first European to achieve the Career Grand Slam. The Majors represent the pinnacle of our sport, and I hope my success can inspire other DP World Tour members to chase and achieve their own dreams for years to come.<\/p>\n

\u201cI look forward to seeing who becomes the first recipient of this new award in 2026 and it will be another very proud moment for me personally to present the trophy to them.\u201d<\/p>\n

McIlroy’s legendary 2025<\/p>\n

McIlroy took the Masters<\/a> over friend and European rival Justin Rose when they went to a play-off in dramatic scenes.<\/p>\n

The 36-year-old eventually overcame Rose in emotional scenes to end 11 years of agony with a legendary high.<\/p>\n

Things got better throughout the year when he then added his sixth Ryder Cup in scenes that were just as emotional but for different reasons as he received shameful abuse from the US crowd throughout.<\/p>\n

The other five men to complete a career Grand Slam are Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods<\/a>, Ben Hogan, Gary Player and Gene Sarazen, who are all Americans.<\/p>\n

Similarly, there are four other European Tour Group annual awards named after players and they are Seve Ballesteros, Harry Vardon, Sir Henry Cotton and John Jacobs.<\/p>\n

Discussing the latest addition, DP World Tour Chief Executive Guy Kinnings said: \u201cWhilst Rory will no doubt go on to achieve many more great things during his career, as a Tour we wanted to commemorate his historic achievement this year of becoming the first European winner of the Career Grand Slam.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis new award will be a permanent legacy that we hope will inspire future generations of DP World Tour members aiming to follow in Rory\u2019s footsteps on golf\u2019s biggest stage.<\/p>\n
