Ruby Rose, the Australian actor and former star of \u201cBatwoman,\u201d is claiming Sydney Sweeney\u2019s casting and persona are the reasons for why the new boxing biopic \u201cChristy\u201d had a rough start at the box office.<\/p>\n
\u201cChristy\u201d landed in 13th place for worst box office openings among films released in at least 2,000 theaters, according to Box Office Mojo<\/a>. The film was released at 2,011 theaters nationwide, earning just $1.3 million, which is around $647 per theater.<\/p>\n On Monday, the actor took to Threads<\/a> blaming Sweeney for the film\u2019s lack of success, revealing Rose was initially set to star.<\/p>\n \u201cThe original Christy Martin script was incredible. Life changing,\u201d Rose said. \u201cI was attached to play Cherry. Everyone had experience with the core material. Most of us were actually gay. It\u2019s part of why I stayed in acting. Losing roles happens all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n The actor continued, \u201cFor her PR to talk about it flopping and saying SS did it for the \u2018people\u2019. I love you.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite her personal message, Sweeney received backlash in the post\u2019s comment section from users who cited her political affiliations and past controversies.<\/p>\n \u201cRaise awareness for domestic but support the likes of Trump? Need to make your mind up on that one,\u201d one commenter wrote.<\/p>\n \u201cToo late. Was excited for this before you ruined your reputation.
