{"id":261217,"date":"2025-11-13T22:04:09","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T22:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/261217\/"},"modified":"2025-11-13T22:04:09","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T22:04:09","slug":"children-in-need-fundraiser-live-on-the-radio-this-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/261217\/","title":{"rendered":"Children in Need fundraiser live on the radio this Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IT\u2019S THAT time of the year again!\u00a0BBC Radio Shetland is hosting its Children in Need fundraiser on Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>Pupils at Tingwall Primary School are presenting Give Us A Tune on Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>Pupils from Tingwall Primary School will be kicking off the night when they take to the airwaves to present Give Us a Tune.<\/p>\n<p>Then Claire White will be along to present the marathon six-hour programme until 1am showcasing some of the best live music in Shetland along with the\u00a0popular auction.<\/p>\n<p>Over 100 items have been donated for this year\u2019s bumper auction.\u00a0The list includes everything from\u00a0knitwear, jewellery and boat trips,\u00a0to a carefully crafted stone croft house and even the offer of a house declutter!<\/p>\n<p>All the auction items can be viewed on the BBC Radio Shetland <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/bbcradioshetland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Facebook page here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Auction prizes have been split between three time slots: an early auction running from 7pm until 9pm, the star auction from 0930pm until 1230am and the late auction between 9pm and until 11pm.<\/p>\n<p>Last year Shetland raised more than \u00a320,000 for Children in Need. The good news is that more than three times that amount is coming back to the islands to support charities this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Ability Shetland are using its grant of \u00a3125,000 over three years to fund clubs and activities for children and young people with disabilities<br \/>\nShetland Women\u2019s Aid secured \u00a350,000 over three years to support children and young people who\u2019ve been affected by numerous complex life challenges<br \/>\nShetland Peeries Makkers\u2019 grant of \u00a35,000 is providing social knitting sessions for young people across the islands\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The North Isles Junior Football Club is in the second year of its \u00a35,000 grant, which is helping to fund travel to tournaments and away matches<br \/>\nLerwick Thistle Football Club award of \u00a35,000 is allowing two groups of young people to travel away from Shetland to tournaments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"row-text sign-in-message\">Already a member? <a href=\"https:\/\/account.shetnews.co.uk\/?redirect_to=https:\/\/www.shetnews.co.uk\/2025\/11\/13\/children-need-fundraiser-live-radio\/\" title=\"Sign in\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sign in<\/a> to hide this message.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The team at Radio Shetland prepare for their marathon Children in Need night.<br \/>From the left to right: editor, John Johnston, Pudsey (journalist Andrea Racekova), senior journalist Pip Murrison and journalist Ross Cowper-Fraser.<\/p>\n<p>Since the appeal started in the 1980s more than \u00a31 million has been raised across the islands.<\/p>\n<p>The station\u2019s editor John Johnston said: \u201cThe support for the appeal is amazing. Every year we witness such generosity by people and businesses through their donations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s fantastic to see is that so much money is coming back to Shetland to support such worthy charities and sporting groups across the isles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re all looking forward to the programme on Friday and hope lots of folk will listen in and bid on our auction by calling
