\"ECG's <\/a>ECG’s monthly revenue has increased from GH\u00a2900 million recorded in 2024 to about GH\u00a21.7 billion<\/p>\n

The Minister of Finance has disclosed that the monthly revenue collection at the nation\u2019s power distributor, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has increased by about 90% in the first year of the John Dramani Mahama administration.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, November 13, 2025, during the presentation of the 2026 Budget and Economic Policy Statement, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson disclosed that revenue collection at the ECG has increased from about GH\u00a2900 million recorded in 2024 to about GH\u00a21.7 billion in under 10 months in 2025.<\/p>\n

He attributed the increase in revenue to the effective implementation of the Cash Waterfall Mechanism.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr Speaker, the results are already visible. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has seen its average monthly revenue rise from GH\u00a2900 million in 2024 to GH\u00a21.7 billion in 2025 \u2014 an almost 90 percent increase \u2014 thanks to full compliance with the Cash Waterfall Mechanism (CWM).<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is real progress towards a financially viable and transparent power sector that supports growth without burdening the taxpayer,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Dr Ato Forson also stated that the government has managed to reduce the country\u2019s debt in the energy sector it inherited.<\/p>\n

He said that through negotiation, the government has saved the nation millions of Ghana cedis and also paid a huge chunk of the debts.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr Speaker, I am pleased to report that we have successfully renegotiated all Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with the IPPs. This was achieved entirely by a team of Ghanaian experts, at no cost to the State, demonstrating the strength of local capacity and our resolve to find home-grown solutions to structural challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe renegotiations have delivered concrete results. They have saved the nation over US$250 million while reprofiling the remaining US$1.1 billion in legacy obligations over a four-year period ending in 2028, thus easing cash flow pressures and ensuring financial sustainability in the energy sector,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cMr Speaker, government is now fully current on its payment obligations to IPPs under the renegotiated agreements. In 2025 alone, we have paid US$300 million and have programmed an additional US$345 million for payment in 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n
