Dr Chun Tang, a GP from <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pallmallmedical.co.uk\/medical-services\/private-gp-appointment\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Pall Mall MedicalLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Pall Mall Medical<\/a>, said the sudden loss of daylight when the clocks change in autumn can badly disrupt your body\u2019s natural rhythm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"hulldailymail\">Dr Tang said: \u201cWhen the clocks change, your circadian rhythm, basically your body\u2019s internal timekeeper, gets thrown off. Even a one-hour shift can be enough to leave you feeling tired, cranky, and a little out of sorts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"hulldailymail\">\u201cLess sunlight in the afternoon means your brain\u2019s getting a double whammy, with your serotonin levels (also known as the happy hormone) dipping, and your sleep hormone, melatonin, ramping up earlier than usual. That\u2019s why many of us are craving carbs, skipping gym sessions, and curling up on the sofa for hibernation season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"hulldailymail\">The expert said reduced daylight doesn\u2019t just affect energy levels; it can actually trigger or worsen seasonal affective disorder (SAD). \u201cWe often see an uptick in people feeling down or lethargic in the weeks after the clocks go back,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"hulldailymail\">A <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/355\/bmj.i5857\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Danish studyLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Danish study<\/a> found an 11% rise in depression cases in the 10 weeks after the time switch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"hulldailymail\">There are ways to beat the effect, according to Dr Tang. \u201cStick to a regular bedtime, even at weekends, grab as much morning sunlight as you can, and get moving,\u201d he said.
