The thought of picking a soundtrack for your own funeral is enormously morbid, but most music lovers have all considered this topic at length, including Slipknot\u2019s Corey Taylor<\/a>. While none of us will be there to witness the moment, the musical choice still needs to be carefully considered and reflective of the person being laid to rest.<\/p>\n We have spent our entire lives soundtracking our lives, so it makes sense, when being presented with a crescendo moment, that we would, as music lovers, aim to have one last track added to the playlist of one\u2019s life. <\/p>\n Through his work as a lyricist with Slipknot, Taylor is no stranger to contemplating mortality, which acts as a persistent thread through their art. Slipknot\u2019s obsession with the topic is the norm within the heavy metal scene, but for his own funeral, Taylor has eyed up a song by a legendary classic rock act rather than from his genre of expertise.<\/p>\n The act in question is Led Zeppelin, who have left an indelible mark on the musical landscape. With his other band, Stone Sour, Taylor previously paid tribute to the group on the track \u2018Fabuless\u2019, released on their 2017 album Hydrogad, which name-checks \u2018Rock and Roll\u2019<\/a>, which appeared on Led Zeppelin\u2019s fourth record.<\/p>\n Speaking on\u00a0Loudwire Nights, he explained how Led Zeppelin\u2019s camp were \u201csuper into it\u201d and \u201creally ecstatic\u201d to be referenced in the song, which meant the world to Taylor as he\u2019s idolised them from an early age.<\/p>\n However, the Led Zeppelin track he wants played at his funeral is \u2018In My Time Of Dying\u2019, the longest song in the band\u2019s career. With a running time of over 11 minutes, the Physical Graffiti number epitomises the grandiose majesty of the band. <\/p>\n While Blind Willie Johnson was responsible for the song\u2019s genesis, they transformed his gospel creation into a rock \u2018n\u2019 roll masterpiece and moved it into a completely different realm.<\/p>\n In conversation with Metal Hammer<\/a>, Taylor was initially asked about the album he wished to be played at his funeral, which he changed to song. Explaining his choice, the Slipknot singer said: \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019d want an album that\u2019d be a long-ass funeral, but I\u2019ve always wanted \u2018In My Time Of Dying\u2019 by Led Zeppelin.\u201d<\/p>\n He added: \u201cIt\u2019s so multi-dimensional and goes through so many twists and turns, and I don\u2019t think it gets enough credit for how fucking gorgeous it is. It\u2019s a killer tune: the slide guitars and Bonham\u2019s backbeat on that tune is unrelenting!\u201d<\/p>\n This tune is proof that the English quartet were the masters of delta blues, and this song holds some nifty demonstrations of slide guitar from the band\u2019s musical director and lead guitarist.
