Donald Trump announced Friday that he is withdrawing his support and endorsement of Republican lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene<\/a>, a longtime ally and previously fierce defender of the president and the Maga movement.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s move away from Greene came just hours after she said in an interview she thought the president\u2019s attempts to stop the release of the files related to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein<\/a> is \u201cinsanely the wrong direction to go\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am withdrawing my support and endorsement of \u2018Congresswoman\u2019 Marjorie Taylor Greene, of the great state of Georgia,\u201d Trump posted on Truth Social<\/a> on Friday evening. \u201cAll I see \u2018Wacky\u2019 Marjorie do is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN!\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump said he would give his \u201cunyielding support\u201d to a primary challenge against her \u201cif the right person runs\u201d. Greene currently represents Georgia\u2019s 14th congressional district.<\/p>\n

Earlier on Friday, Greene told Politico <\/a>that Trump should not be trying to stop the release of the Epstein files when rising costs in the US are making it difficult for even the president\u2019s own supporters to pay their bills.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s insanely the wrong direction to go. The five-alarm fire is healthcare and affordability for Americans. And that\u2019s where the focus should be,\u201d Greene said.<\/p>\n

\u201cReleasing the Epstein files is the easiest thing in the world. Just release it all. Let the American people sort through every bit of it, and, you know, support the victims. That\u2019s just like the most common sense, easiest thing in the world. But to spend any effort trying to stop it makes \u2013 it just doesn\u2019t make sense to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Greene has spent the past few months voicing opinions that are at odds with those of the White House and some of her Republican colleagues. Earlier this week, Trump pushed back against criticism from Greene, saying she had \u201clost her way\u201d after she accused him<\/a> of paying too much attention to foreign affairs and not enough to the rising cost of living in the US.<\/p>\n

Greene responded to Trump\u2019s remarks on X a day after, saying that \u201cthe only way is through Jesus\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s my way, and I\u2019ve definitely not lost it. Actually I\u2019m working hard to put my faith into action,\u201d she posted.<\/p>\n

Escalations have increased since Trump\u2019s return to office, as the 51-year-old has increasingly broken with the party on domestic and foreign policy. She criticised<\/a> the White House for its plans to send \u201cbillions of dollars\u201d in weapons to Ukraine and departed from the Republican party\u2019s traditional support for Israel by calling its war in Gaza a \u201cgenocide<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n

In an interview<\/a> with the Washington Post, the Georgia congresswoman spoke about her discontent with congressional leaders of her own party, including the House speaker, Mike Johnson, amid the government shutdown that ended this week.<\/p>\n
