\u201cShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings\u201d star Simu Liu has strongly defended superhero movies.<\/p>\n

The 36-year-old actor says he is aware the genre has fallen out of style with critics and some fans following a glut of product and some mixed results. <\/p>\n

Liu\u2019s own \u201cShang-Chi\u201d film is considered one of the best post-\u201cAvengers: Endgame\u201d film efforts from Marvel, but a sequel hasn\u2019t materialised despite being in the works for several years.<\/p>\n

Speaking with Variety<\/a> about a new project, the actor touched upon the \u2018superhero fatigue\u2019 argument:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s kind of fashionable now to hate on it. I think there are valid critiques of the way that movies are made, the way that production budgets are handled. I think that there are a lot of valid things to say.<\/p>\n

This idea of s\u2014ting on superhero movies as a genre? I don\u2019t know. I don\u2019t know, because I am speaking as somebody who just absolutely loved watching them as a kid.<\/p>\n

I grew up watching superhero movies and wanting to believe that the outcasts and the nerds and the weirdos could find it in themselves to have superpowers and save the day.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s what 12-year-old me clung on to. I still believe, for better or for worse, in the power of what those movies stand for today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Liu will be reprising his Shang-Chi role in \u201cAvengers: Doomsday\u201d next year, and of that project says: \u201cIt was really awesome, exciting. So many actors that I grew up watching, and to get to kind of play in that sandbox with them\u2026 It\u2019s a dream come true.\u201d<\/p>\n
