Former \u201cShazam\u201d star Zachary Levi says he\u2019s ready to return to comic book movies.<\/p>\n

Levi played Shazam first in the 2019 original, which became a surprise critical and commercial success. On the other hand, its far less well-regarded 2023 sequel \u201cShazam: Fury of the Gods\u201d was one of several failed DCEU films released in 2023.<\/p>\n

When that film failed, Levi famously and publicly pointed fingers at the mess that DC was behind the scenes prior to the Gunn-Safran takeover, as well as \u2018online hate\u2019. He essentially left Hollywood with a source telling THR<\/a> last year: \u201cWhen he was cast as Shazam, it was literally his dream. He thought this was his ticket to being The Rock or Chris Evans. But it didn\u2019t happen for him, and he\u2019s bitter about that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, speaking with FeatureFirst<\/a>, the actor expressed interest in joining the DC Universe \u2013 be it reprising his Shazam role from the prior DCEU or an entirely new character:<\/p>\n

\u201cListen, I love playing Shazam! It was one of the most fun experiences. I grew up watching Christopher Reeves\u2018 \u201cSuperman\u201d and Tom Hanks in \u201cBig,\u201d and I got to be both in one role. And he\u2019s such a fun role. I love my Shazamly, as we affectionately call it; every one of those actors, young and old. We really shared an awesome experience over two movies.<\/p>\n

So, yeah, if James and the powers that be said, \u2018we\u2019d love to bring you back as Shazam!\u2019 or if there were some other DC character\u2026[I\u2019d do it]. I love comic books, I\u2019ve been reading them since I was a kid, so long as it was something that was really worthy, like a character or a story that was \u2018oh wow, that\u2019s new and that\u2019s different, that\u2019s a flavor we haven\u2019t really seen yet before.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Levi has worked on multiple films since then, including \u201cSpy Kids: Armageddon,\u201d \u201cChicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget,\u201d and \u201cHarold And The Purple Crayon\u201d \u2013 none of which took off.
